Zebra TC51 Android Oreo 8 Non-GMS Device

Hello I have Zebra  TC51 Android 8 non gms devices i need to enroll them in SOTI without downgrading Android 7.

What will be the appropriate procedure and how it can be done.

Also if i want to convert it into GMS so how it can be done? Any idea or suggestion would be appreciated.

Just Build a Stge Now Barcode for Zero-Touch would be the easiest.

If you don't use Google Zero Touch, you can do the same for the whole enrollment in Stage Now.

If you don'T use Google Zero-Touch you won't be able to use the Zero-Touch Profile in Stage Now (it just adds a network config for example), the rest does Zero-Touch from Google.

Then you have to choose a different one, there's a configuration called "Enroll in an MDM" you could try with.

We use Xpert Mode. And even ask Zebra for help if needed because there could many network related stuff etc. you could take care but Stage Now is in general not that hard to understand.

To convert just go to zebra download page and get the GSM img. Use stage now to upgrade and then enroll.
Converting is not so smooth and can fail, so it would be better to upgrade before enrolling.

Thank you. I was trying to first upgrade it to GMS but not sure it will work or not.

Android 8 Zebra devices have to be managed in SOTI via Android Enterprise, Android Classic (DA) is not supported. Assuming you'd want to enroll under Device Owner, that means that you have to enroll the device using one of the Android Enterprise mechanisms that supports Device Owner based enrollment. The majority of these options (QR, NFC, DPC Identifier, and even ZTE) are generally only available during the Google Setup Wizard, which is only present on GMS devices. You therefore have the option of first converting the device to GMS using the OS images hosted on the Zebra website, as you'd then be able to use any of the native Android Enterprise enrollment methods.

Zebra however provides a method through StageNow to also perform Android Enterprise Device Owner enrollments that will also work on Non-GMS devices like the TC51 that you have. You can pursue the stagenow based SOTI enrollment method to download and install the SOTI agent on the device and automatically set it as Device Owner. I honestly would recommend this approach for both GMS and Non-GMS versions of Zebra devices as it is the most streamlined and most controllable. StageNow based enrollment can take place with 1-2 barcode scans, including connection to the network and SOTI server. "Zero Touch" Enrollment on the other hand is somewhat of a misnomer as it can take 15-20 taps on each device. The name Zero Touch has more to do with it being Zero Touch for an EMM or IT admin as you can typically put the work onto an end user but technically speaking the StageNow based enrollment requires less touches than Zero Touch.

Thats correct, i missed the "non gms" part in his request.

And yes zero-touch is for the admin, not the user. But there are less "real" settings to be made, mostly it's just tapping "next".

But Z-T has the nice to have feature everyone who does enroll the device, don't need a barcode and even has no chance to get around the configuration (only you would use it 100% offline which is, i think, nearly never the case). So even someone steals the device and trys to configure it after wipe it will end in the MDM set up in Zero-Touch and it's useless then for him/her (if the creation ofgoogle accounts is restricted on the device).

Even he/she enrolls it then offline and then turns data connection on it will be reset after 1 hour automatically.
