Hi Paul,
I don't have access to any official documentation. However, if you also do actual tests on enrolled Android devices just like what I did in the past, I believe that you should be able to verify that the time-stamp associated with each collected data item is device time. Such data sent back to the Mobicontrol server will not be modified/adjusted (e.g. due to different time zone of the server from that configured on the device).
I cannot guarantee that the above is true for all supported device platforms and all device firmware versions. Do some quick tests on your devices if you are in doubt.
Hey Paul,
Thanks for posting on SOTI pulse. I tried to replicate this on one of my test devices. I changed it's time using a Time Synchronization rule to a different time zone.
And as per my testing the collected data was showing time stamps based on the server time in my case. The server time is my time zone and it was reporting back when the data was collected in my time. Also as per Raymond, I request you to test this out on your device and observe the behavior. If you have further issues and concerns related to the same, I request you to create a case to troubleshoot it forward.

Hi ENMod,
I doubt the procedure of your tests and interpretation of the results. When you relied on using time-synchronization policy to change just the time zone of a device, it seems that you didn't actually see what was the device time for each of the data collected from the device and shown on your web-console. If I am wrong, please clarify. In fact, if you use time-synchronization policy to set device time according to server in a single DS system, device-time will always be the same as server time, and may thus create an illusion that the reported collected data timestamp follows server time.
In my tests, I intentionally disabled the time-synchronization advanced-configuration policy, and actually changed the device time backward or forward in various different amounts of time (from a few to tens of minutes) directly via device's Settings app, and monitored the collected data values (battery percentage every 2 minutes) and device-time actually shown on the status bar of the device. After forcing data-collection buffer flushing & device check-in every few minutes, I could see timestamps and battery percentage reported in the data-collection tab of the device in the web-console and compared them to what was actually observed on the device. My results consistently showed that the time-stamp associated with each collected data is device time. I also found that the server filtered out (i.e. skipped or did not show) all collected data points in the data-collected tab if the timestamp associated with such data point is earlier than the last item that has already been shown/reported. On the contrary, if the device-time was manuall set forward for many tens of minutes ahead of the real/accurate time (i.e. MobiControl or NTP/SNTP server time), the data collected (together with MANUALLY MANIPULATED device-time tmestamps) at 2-minute intervals will be shown immediately after buffer-flushing/device check-in.
I hope you review your test process and collect data again to reconfirm/correct your conclusion with the new test results.
Hey Raymond
Thanks for your response and letting me know how exactly you performed the tests on your device. After disabling the Time Synchronization all together and after pushing the Data Collection Policy to the device did you see the time along with the battery percentage reflect with the time you were setting on the device?
For some reason I am not able to replicate the same. Which MobiControl version did you try this on? Thank you!!

Hi ENMod,
I already said in my previous post I could see the correct battery percentage value with the time manually set on the device reported in the Collected-Data tab of the device tested.
The test was done on server running MobiControl version 2025.0.2.1059.
Hey Raymond
Thanks for your response and letting me know the MobiControl version you tested this on. I will give it a try on the version you mentioned and see the behavior. Thank you, have a good day.
