Download the Android Enterprise Agent directly from the Mobicontrol Server

BS

We have a strange behavior with our customer
They are currently staging many devices via QR code. With the staging network, it works fine for about 25% of the devices.
The other 75% of the devices cannot download the agent.
The devices are all identical in type and OS.
When we download the agent via hotspot it works fine, except that the SOTI server is not publicly available and the device has to be rebooted to manually connect to the internal WLAN for the registration to work. This is quite cumbersome and time consuming.
Now my idea was to host the Android Enterprise Agent locally on the SOTI server and download it from there and then adjust the download URL in the QR code accordingly.
But somehow I didn't find anything clever how the URL could be or where I would have to upload the agent.
Can you tell me if this is possible or how I could achieve this?

Best Regards

Hi Benjamin,

you can upload the relevant file to any internally reachable server (could be the soti server itself as well and also should have them available already, just allow access to them) and link to it in the QR code or you can (i would recommend this but i don't know your network setup etc.) just allow the internal Wifi to reach the download destination of the Soti agents.

But it very sounds to me that your customer allows the connection to (as an example) only one ip-address instead of all which are behind the DNS of http://soti.net/ or to be more precise if it's the enterprise agent: http://soti.net/apk/ae2

In a lookup i can find currently 2 IP-adresses behind that you may need to ensure they are both reachable.

In addition you could ask Soti which ip-addresses your customer needs to allow connection to.

Hi Rafael

Thank you for the prompt answer.
I've just transmitted the IPs to the Network Team.
Yeah to upload it on the SOTI Server was my first intention.
Is there any suggested way from SOTI or should we configure this by ourselfs?

No, not as I am aware of but never needed that yet as we use zero-touch which always grabs the agent from playstore.

I think the agent's are already there but don't ask me for the path as i only have access to the console and not to the server in our environment.
Check this maybe in the console if you go to Global settings - Android - Device Agent and Plugin
All listed agents there should be stored locally.

Finally you only may need to find out where they are stored and allow access (if not already granted by default) and provide the path to the mobiles.

Yeah I'm also at that point and looking for the path as it should be on the server...
But I will have a look with soti represantive.

Hi Benjamin,

Is there any difference between the devices that "can" and "can't" enroll from network perspective. If it's same network, then if some devices can enroll well, the agent.apk should be accessible from other devices as well.

You may also check out the Android Enterprise network requirements from one of your device just in case there is no network restriction issue (earlier I faced something similar for AE OS12 devices, while other OS below then OS12 was working well).

Android Enterprise Network Requirements - Android Enterprise Help (google.com)

You can also quickly check out this information by using one of the device which is on same network (either it's enrolled or not enrolled to MC) by using a 3rd party Android application (that's kind of pinging the related AE network DSN:ports), one of them that I used earlier was: "Android Enterprise Net. Check". I hope it helps.

Hi Benjamin,

Have you added provisioning parameter "PROVISIONING_DEVICE_ADMIN_PACKAGE_DOWNLOAD_LOCATION"  pointing to any internal server hosting your desired device agent when generating the QR-code you used to enroll your existing devices?
