Maintenance window for GMS App Updates

Looing in some information about how managed google play app updates work I ran across this post:

https://support.google.com/googleplay/work/answer/9350374?hl=en

In it it references a Maintenance window for app updates.

You can set a maintenance window during which the following constraints are ignored:
  • The device is charging.
  • The device is idle (i.e. not actively used).
  • The app to be updated is not running in the foreground.

The maintenance window is defined by a start time (local time of the device) and a duration (between 30 minutes and 24 hours).

Note that setting a maintenance window doesn’t affect the network constraint which is controlled separately (see section above for controlling this constraint).

It can take up to 24 hours for an app update to be added to the update queue. After an app is added to the queue, it will be updated automatically the next time the device is in the maintenance window if the network constraint is met. As a result, it can take up to 48 hours for an app to update after you set a maintenance window.

Is it possible to have Mobicontrol set that Maintenance window on the device?  If so how is that done?  Otherwise have their been any improvements around getting Google to give mdm's api calls into the play store to force an app to update?

Thanks in advance.

Allen.

Note the call out at the top of the section. These are new features of Android Enterprise but the individual EMMs still need to implement the mechanism and expose the support for us to be able to take advantage of the features. This is pretty typical for Android Enterprise, things like OEMConfig and the feedback channel get announced and work with AMAPI but there is usually a lag time between the base support and actual availability within each EMM. SOTI has not added support for this yet as far as I am aware.

Thanks Matt.   That is what I assumed.  I wonder if this is something we should ask Soti to implement as a feature request for 15.1 MR or 15.2?  Or even better find out if Google has added in the ability to push a software update for a gms app.  I know at SOTI Sync last year Google had not added that into its api calls yet.  Anyway thanks for the reply Matt.

I just checked in a 15.2 Beta instance and while Managed Update Windows are not there, it does now seem to add support for the feedback channel. This is at least an indication of progress in terms of support being added for new AE features. I think it make sense to put in a feature request for this.

yeah the app feed back is in 15.1 as well.  I think I will put in a feature request.

I don't think there is a solution yet but I still need to look at adding a feature request.  I will talk to someone about that later today.
