Zebra TC8300 won't scan in lockdown. Android 11.

We just receieved a new batch of TC8300's that come with Android 11. After enrolling them in Mobi and defaulting to the lockdown screen, I am unable to use the scanner. I've tried adjusting settings in Datawedge with no success. The profile I am using has worked great on Android 10 with no issues. All of the sudden, they won't scan in lockdown. Is this a new issue?

Generally you need to have an app open with an associated DataWedge Profile for the scan data to go somewhere. Are you just trying to scan a barcode on the SOTI Lockscreen? What purpose would that serve?

All applications in the lockdown screen have been defined in Datawedge. In our facility, we have specific applications we use to scan in material for traceability purposes. This has never been an issue until we received our new batch of 8300's with Android 11.

But does scanning work inside of those applications once they are launched? Your description made it sound like scanning doesnt work while on the lockscreen itself, but what about inside the individual applications with associated DataWedge Profiles?

Sorry for the confusion. But no, even when the apps are open, it will not scan.

When the scan gun is first enrolled and on the lockdown screen, everything works properly. If you restart the gun (or if it dies on an operator and they replace the battery/charge it), once it's back up and on the lockdown screen, scanning does not work. I've verified this on our TC8300's and TC72's on Android 11. On Android 10, we didn't have this problem at all.

Very unusual. I have deployed thousands of a A11 Zebra devices in the past 18th months or so and have not encountered this behavior. Are you loading a recent BSP like 11-35 U00 on the devices? You may be experiencing a bug in an older BSP if not.

Also what enrollment method  are you using? There have been reports of DataWedge getting disabled along with other system apps if using the afw#mobicontrol DPC identifier method for enrollment. I would recommend the StageNow based AEDO enrollment into SOTI if you have Zebra devices.

Hi Bradley,

I am experiencing the same issue with MC93.
If you reset the dataWedge to it`s factory default and configure it again.
The scanner is working. If you do a reboot the issue happens again and nothing works.

I had a ticket with SOTI Support [C00656799] but they couldn't show me a solution for this.
Zebra couldn't give me a solution yet aswell.

The only way the scanner works is to change the lockdown settings to "Activity suppression"

The Lockdown type is a noteworthy discovery. If Native mode is not working then DataWedge is likely being blocked by the Lockdown and may need to be whitelisted in order for it to work. Whitelisting is unfortunately not a straightforward activity as the app needs to be added to the lockdown and then hidden via HTML edits to the Lockdown template if you don't want it displayed to end users. We use Activity Suppression lockdown in most cases due to this issue with Native mode.
