Hello,
We tried using StageNow (via the HostManager) to set the hostname, but that did not work.
Hello,
I think the hostname that you're setting with that MX CSP is more of a networking hostname seen by your networking infrastructure. I don't believe that is surfaced to the MobiControl agent.
Hello Marco,
do you have a solution for this now? we have the same problem with the name
Thank you.
Hello,
Unfortunately we don't have a solution yet. We are currently working on a workaround. As soon as we have a solution we will publish it here.
We have programmed a separate APP for this. The Zebra EMDK is able to transmit with the DHCP client a hostname to the DHCP server. In the SOTI Console the name must be entered separately.
The following is just an idea which has not been verified to be functional.
If you can have an .xml/.ini file with the hostname put/generated on the device via StageNow or your custom app, you can include a MobiControl data-collection rule to collect the hostname as a custom data. Then include a MobiControl file-sync rule with pre-script to rename the device according to the custom data collected upon device connection to the MobiControl server.
I have a similar problem. When downloading patches the network gets over utilized and our network team can identify the device by the Android OS Device name. Is there any plans by SOTI to add this piece of information to the console? I can not map the name that they give me to anything on the device to find. This makes finding the offending device difficult.
We are NOT using STATIC IPs or device names.
Thanks,
Jim
You could use serialnumber wildcard if that is available in the hostname and then use serialnumber as device name in mobicontrol.
The issue is not with the Name within MobiControl, but the name on the network. In my case the name was android-48487e1ce0320769. I am assuming this is the name that Android assigned the device through DHCP. This is the name that I would like visible in the console.
Hi Jim,
Thank you for requesting an answer on this post.
Have you tried using the %HOSTNAME% macro to achieve what you are looking for? Here are some other macros available on our online help-guide: Device Naming Macros (soti.net)
Otherwise, I would recommend opening a case with SOTI Support (support@soti.net) so we can investigate this request in more detail, and perhaps open a Feature Request.
Kind regards,
Hi Jim,
Following up on your request, were you able to resolve the issue with the %HOSTNAME% macro? If yes, please let me know and I can mark it as a Solution on this thread.
@Matt, I believe the macro was introduced back in 2013 on one of the legacy versions but since then it is likely there has been many improvements to it, especially on the Android platform.
Kind regards,
Is there any way to display this in the Web Console? Or a way to get it into an XML file so that it could be shown as Custom Data?
It is great to be able to get it, but I shouldn't have to log into the device to get it. Due to the devices being staged on a different network, I don't believe it would be a good idea to use it as the SOTI device name.
Any other ideas?
Hi Marco,
Following up on this thread, were you able to find a workaround for your original request? If yes, it would be great if you could share it and we can mark it as 'Solution'. Otherwise, perhaps the %HOSTNAME% macro I mentioned in my previous comment is what you need?
@Jim, I suggest opening a case with SOTI Support and ask for a Feature Request, as this is not an option right now in the Web Console GUI (except for using it in the Device Name). You can open a case by emailing us on support@soti.net and we will be happy to help!
Kind regards,
