Preventing MobiControl agent from updating via Mangaged Google Play

Hi,

Following on from this thread - and in particular the last 2 posts - is there any way that I can prevent MGP Store from updating the agent of our devices?

https://discussions.soti.net/thread/prevent-mobicontrol-agent-upgrade

MobiControl agent is not a managed app in MGP and I would like to take manual control of the updates via the update compatibility and update options presented by the web console instead.

I am running MobiControl Version: 15.5.0.1021

Thank you

I never tried but did you try following script from here:

app_upgrade disable <package-list>

Allows the administrator to disable automatic Android Enterprise agent updates to latest versions from the Google Play Store, remotely on Android devices through MobiControl.

Minimum device agent version: 15.1.5

Android OS:

Samsung: API Level 11 and MDM v 5.0+ and above

Zebra: API Level 26 and MXMF v10.3 and above

OEMs supported: Samsung and Zebra

app_upgrade disable <package-list>

Example

app_upgrade disable com.businessapp

But it seem only support Zebra and Samsung.

I have not used this specific script but have been consistently using the Zebra MX for disabling the upgrades of the Agent from Google Play and I've unfortunately had mixed results. It seems that the setting does a decent job of slowing down or reducing the amount of upgrades that are happening but many still slip through the cracks somehow. It's a frustrating loose variable that seems difficult to nail down. In some extreme cases I've had customers disable Google Play completely on their devices in order to stop these unmanaged updates from causing instability in their environments.

And i even don't know which devices he uses but just found only this possibility.

The strange thing is that we had to add the agent to MGP to get ours updated (yes i know you have seen different behavior which makes it even more strange). But this was also some years ago.

Hi Rafael and Matt,

I'm using Honeywell (CT60) devices, so I am not confident that I will have success with the script. I can try it on my test device and wait some time to see what happens.

Thank you for the suggestions :-)

In that regard check their oem app if you can do such a setting there.
