Android OS management is a problem that I don't think will be going away any time soon. My end customers tried to avoid taxing the bandwidth at the local sites for a long time, trying creative alternatives like local FTP relay servers or offline updates to the devices. Many however have eventually given in now and have upgraded the ISP connections in their remote sites in order to be able to handle the increase in bandwidth requirements.
It sure is struggle. I read your post from back in 2018 on how other customers manage their OS deployments. It would be nice if there was an app where you can manage OS deployment. Maybe one day. Thanks again Matt!
For devices with firmware images downloable from OEM vendors such as Zebra, one possible direction maybe is to explore feasibility of using Soti XtremeHub. You can have hubs/servers at different countries/regions/cities/sites levels, in which big device OS image files can be cached locally using a Hub-node (a device itself being managed by MobiControl) before being transferred to other targeted devices using free corporate Wifi/wireline network locally in the same site. Post-script of associated MobiControl File-sync rule/policy can subsequently be used to automatically initiate the actual update of the transferred OS flash image file.
For OEM brand devices that gets OS image file directly from the OEM backend server, there seems to be no other bandwidth efficient option at the moment.
Hi ,
about what devices you are talking.
Samsung, Honeywell, Zebra,...
As Raymond wrote is it possible with MobiControl15.5.2 when you have a contract to update the ZEBRA Devices directly. Only over command to start the Update to the wanted Version.
Xtreme HUB on each location to update the Devices Faster.
We do not use this Option, every Xtreme HUB installation is using a License ;)
We are running the Android Updates over internal Network, global from one Server with incremental Updates.
