Hello

We have a Samsung J2Core with Android Go 8.1. The Samsung ELM agent is not compatible with the device. We were able to enroll it as Android Enterprise, but there is not plugin for it, so there is only remote view.

It is a shame because the customer is used to remote control devices.  Is there a plugin for this Android go devices ?

Thank you.

Hello Edgar,

From MobiControl's perspective, we do not strip down any functionality on Go. However, as Raymond has rightly mentioned, it is a stripped down version of Android and it is very possible that Samsung has stripped out the KNOX APIs needed to activate ELM and thus providing the Remote control functionality.

Android Go devices even from a Google perspective are not considered 'enterprise' devices and are subject to having anything related to management removed due to space/ram constraints.

Solution

Hello Edgar,

This topic has come up before.   Although it was not solutioned, some of the information in the post may be helpful to you.

The last time I checked there wasn't an "Android GO" plug-in, but I can inquire if this has changed any since then.

What are the version & build numbers of the device agent installed?  What about the active MDM APIS's reported in the configuration tab of the agent or in the information tab associated with the device in the web console?

Android Go is supposed to be a stripped down version of Android for very low-cost entry-level devices, which are often the most unlikely devices for enterprise use.  I wouldn't be surprised if Samsung has removed some functions in the firmware to meet the memory budget.  Samsung J2 Core is not even on the unofficial  Android Enterprise device catalog maintained by Google.   A very big family of normal Samsung Galaxy devices running standard Android do not need any plug-in for full remote control, and I doubt if there is any incentive for Samsung or Soti to build a plug-in for one or two such low-cost device models, which inherently have very low profit margin even without the extra work of building a plug-in.
