Why can't Mobicontrol read xml for Windows Custom Data fields

I have critical application updates that depend on a config setting stored in an xml file.  The vendor generated xml file doesn't always store the needed field on the same line, and I am constantly having to create new custom data queries to avoid deploying to the wrong workstations.

MobiControl can extract the right field/key parsed from XML file for custom data collection, and any field/key targeted is not restricted to be on a fixed line of the file.

How exactly did you specify your custom data queries?

What are the version and build numbers of your MobiControl server and device agent?  What about the version of the Windows devices?

Version 15.0.2.1049.  Custom data build type is Text, looking at line number of a text file.  All devices are Win 10.

Without seeing exactly what you input, I can be 100% sure, but it appears that  the root cause of your problem is due to your chosen way of specifying custom data based on line number,  MobiControl can support more advanced parsing of XML, e.g. based on XPATH.

Please explain.  XPATH is not an option in the data type selection.  Limited to text, ini, registry and stdout.

Hi Lane,

Thanks for posting on SOTI Pulse and thanks Raymond for responding to the post.

Would you like to check with your vendor who has provided an XML file for the application, please?
Also, you can check with the application developer and see if that XML file is in the proper format as required.

Thank you.

Kind regards,

I believe both responders have missed the point of my question.  I do not have the option to query xml in Windows Classic custom data fields.  This is not a issue that the third party vendor can nor should resolve.

Hi Lane,

Thank you for your response.

I would suggest you create a support case and that way we can create a developer ticket and we can get this option added for you.

Thank you.

Kind regards,
