Someone may correct me but when you "delete devices from the console" they will be deleted from DB at some time as well, so no lookup possible.

If you don't do that and also haven't checked the "Delete Devices after Unenrollment" in global settings for unenrollment you should be able to look them up even after unenrollment.

But i assume this would mean they still consume a license until they are removed and you will have obsolete data in the DB and console.

If the  "Delete Devices after Unenrollment"  option has not been enabled,  information of unenrolled device will still be kept in the DevInfo and other related tables in the MobiControl  MS-SQL database without consuming any device license, but there is no canned report or options in the web-console to extract/display such information.

Ok, my understanding of "delete" than is different from behaviour, i thought "Delete" thru console also means delete from DB. But thanks then for correcting my assumption.

The term "Delete" in the option "Delete Devices after Unenrollment" is related to whether a device is removed from the mentioned Database tables, and such option was added in the web-console about four years ago on some customers' requests possibly to ensure privacy of users of removed BYOD devices can be respected upon complete information removal from the database.  Historically, there has always been a specific field in the DevInfo table to indicate whether a device entry is still active and consume any device license, and thus an entry in the table need not always imply a device license is consumed/occupied.

On the other hand,  the "Delete" device action and "Unenrol" device action  have been in MobiControl web-console for more than ten years, and their main difference is that the former releases the consumed device license on top of the "unenrol" device action, and  an administrator can visually see that the device icon is totally removed from the web-console but may not know that the corresponding device entry still remains in the database table.    Historically, the device entry is still kept in the DevInfo table of the database after either requested device actions, possibly to facilitate the functions to name/locate a device to its previous name/location when re-enrolled again to the same server.

Ruwan,

Though there is no canned report to list information of all / group(s) of unrolled devices, you can still click on icon of each unenrolled device to get information of each.  Besides, a simple workaround for getting some kind of custom report is to do the following:

1. Select the "View All" option in device-group-tree pane in your web console;

2. Customize the "column" view to include the information you want to show in your report;

3. Use the search filter to include criteria to find devices with "Device Mode" == "Unenrolled by Admin" and/or "Unenrolled by User";

4. Select the "Export Device List" button on the right side of custom column view select panel to get an CSV export file of required information.  This might need to be repeated for each of the multiple pages if the total number of unenrolled devices filtered out exceed the maximum per-page limit of 250.devices.

Have you enabled the "Delete Devices after Unenrollment"  option in your MobiControl server instance?

Also, have you configured any Windows script to run backup of MobiControlDB database in MS-SQL server at regular interval or scheduled time?

Can you confirm if you are using an on-premise or cloud server? Please also confirm the MobiControl version.

Hi Ruwan,

I just ran some tests using the "delete devices after unenrollment" and without and upon my testing, if the device gets deleted off the web console, then the data in the database is removed.

with the "delete devices after unenrollment" toggled on, if an administrator unenrolls the device from the web console, the info will still be available in the database. But if the user unenrolls it from the device in the application, the entry in the web console will get deleted and will not be available in the devInfo table.

I would suggest to open up a case with Soti Support to see what info can be retrieved the database.

Kind regards,

Hi,

A quick question, if the device gets factory reset, what will be the status in the SOTI webconsole? and will it consume license?

Thanks.

As I know, if the factory reset done from device side  then it will consume license until you unenroll the device from console.
