By chance is your MobiControl instance installed on a Windows Server 2012R2? 

If so the following solution may resolve your problem:

Install "Desktop Experience" feature from the Server Manager utility.
This allows the changing of themes, change the theme on the server to the Windows Default theme and MCStudio will now open
