Since I am going to add 5000 devices to the server, I think that the requirements of 1000+ devices is probably not enough for the 5000 devices.:
Is there a standard, that says, X devices requires at least this much? And what is the max?
The actual host hardware required depends not just on the number of devices, but rather also on the quantity, complexity and target run-time performance of the policies you configured.
With 5000 devices, you likely needs at least
- a 3GHz+ Quad-core CPU with minimum 16GB RAM for MC Deployment Server. (I would actually consider using a two-DS HA system if the policies used are demanding, and in such case, a hardware load-balancer is needed for full HA operation for some device platforms)
- a 2GHz+ Dual-core CPU with minimum 16GB RAM for MS-SQL Database Server running at least Standard Edition of MS-SQL (as you likely need more space than the 10GB database size limit offered by the free MS-SQL-Express for 5000+ devices)
Make sure your hardware allows adding more RAM.
Ideally, you should give Soti sales and support team more details on how you intend to use the tool to get a more realistic recommendation that fits your case.
