iOS DDM on existing devices/profiles

Hello,

We use iOS devices and have set up various profiles on the devices (application run control, feature control, web clips).

If we activate DDM so that we can use the more robust iOS update management, will this have any impact on the hisotric profiles that are installed?

I think it should be fine, but I'm finding the information online around compatibility reactive and declarative management a bit confusing.

Policies in DDM framework are architected and implmented on Apple devices by Apple to coexist with conventional reactive profile policies, at least within the next few years as a transition period.   Regarding policy related to iOS firmware management,  related policy within DDM framework have precidence over related/conflicting set-up configured with the classical reactive profile policy framework.

Hi Jake,

Thanks for posting your query. I believe your query is answered by Raymond.

To add more on this,

  • DDM doesn’t replace or wipe your existing profiles.

    • The device will continue to respect all existing configuration profiles (Application Run Control, Feature Control, Web Clips, Wi-Fi, Restrictions, etc.) that you’ve already deployed.

  • New DDM payloads will supplement existing profiles, especially around software updates and some compliance logic.

  • Apple designed DDM to be backward compatible, meaning profiles you pushed via “reactive” MDM will remain in place until you remove or replace them.

Thank you, Raymond, for providing your valuable insight on this.
