Is there an size restriction for filesyncrules?

I try to push an updatefile to an device. First i try via package  but there i got the message that the file size is to big (2.2gb)

Ok i try to create an filesyncrule but the upload to the server is stopped after some minutes. Smaller updates and files are uploaded really fast.

Is there an file size restriction on the server?

Thank you

Hello, so far I have had experience with update files of 1.6 GB, and this has worked without any problems. Perhaps the connection is not stable and the upload process gets interrupted. As far as I know, the devices need to remain continuously connected until the transfer is complete.

Ok, but now the question how we can deploy files bigger th 2gb to the devices?

FTP or HTTP could be possible:

ftp

Copies a file or directory from an ftp server to a device.

ftp [wget] [-o,-r] source destination

Where

  • wget copies a file from an ftp server to a local storage or sd card on the device
  • -o specifies to override existing files
  • -r specifies to recursively read all files under each folder

Example

To copy a file from ftp to local storage on the device:

ftp wget -o -r ftp://user:123@server/folder /storage/emulated/0/Download

httpget

Downloads files using the HTTP protocol.

httpget URL localPath

Is there maybe some proposal from soti side? I dont want go to an 3rd party location

Maybe it should be more like to ask Soti if this limit of 2GB can be extended because OS's are getting bigger, so especially for providing files for OS updates can be bigger than 2GB will be interesting in future.

Or if it's something which is locked down for some reason and can't be extended.

I will create an ticket to Soti

What was the outcome of your support ticket? I'm starting to see the same issue now with Zebra A13 OS files (~2.3GB) with File Sync rules. Lifeguard OTA is not a viable alternative given the lack of automation features in MobiControl so I'm really hoping that there is a solution to this issue other than opening a SOTI ticket and have them upload the files to the environment for you.

Hello Matt,

right now we work with Soti support to find an solution. But unfortunately right now we run only from one error in the next after every change.

I will keep you informed about the progress.

Kind regards

Günter

Hi Guenter,

Thanks for posting on SOTI Pulse and thanks Rafael amd Omercan for responding to the post.

Would you like to explain the use case scenario please, as we have another option for OS updates?

Such as zebra devices, we have OTA updates that may not require a file sync rule necessarily.

Please find the link below for your reference.

Thank you.

Kind regards,

Hello,

the OTA sounds good.

  • Are the update deployed via XtremeHubs? We implement the hubs with the background of network trouble in China (this was recommended from Soti site).
  • Other possibility s ?

This is one of the issues with the "modern" way...neither apps distributed with policy nor OTA OSUpdates are cached from an XTremeHub, so the benefit of XTremeHub gets less.

The point for me is that the extremhubs is an proposal for our plant in CN and MX for reduce the networktraffic and make the processes for enrollment and updates more stable.

There is an mismatch for me:

  • Trouble with enrollment and updates -> Xtremhub is proposewd by Soti -> limitation for Size by Xtremhubs -> proposal by Soti is use OTA -> more network traffic and the same trouble like without Xtremhubs

Is there any feedback from Soti site?

Günter
