eSIM Cellular Plan Update conditions

Hello, we are looking to roll out eSims to our IOS devices. Does anyone know what the conditions are for the remote command to work?

We've tested on a few devices and if the iPhone is on and connected to internet the eSim installs instantly.

However I tested with a device that was off for a few days and when it turned on and checked in it did not apply the eSim settings.

The logs show that 'eSIM Cellular Plan Update requested' but no further logs.

Do the devices have to be turned on and connected to the internet when the command is sent for the changes to apply? We're dealing with large numbers of devices and some are already out in the field so this may be an issue.

Dear Jake,

Thank you for posting on SOTI Pulse.

Could you please confirm , wich method are you using for it.

Via Apple's Automated Device Enrollment (ADE)

                                or

Using the "Update eSIM Cellular Plan" Device Action

                               or

 Manual Activation (User-Initiated)

Kind Regard's

Is adding eSims via Apple's Automated Device Enrollment (ADE) an option with SOTI?

Did your problematic device still have any remaining active connection (e.g. Wifi, old cellular, etc. ) when you powered it up?

eSIM can be automatically installed on an iPhone (with iOS 16 or later) or iPad (with iPadOS 16.1 or later)  during device setup using Automated Device Enrollment with  Apple Business Manager.

Go to  https://support.apple.com/en-us/101569  to find wireless carriers and worldwide service providers that offer eSIM service on iPhone.

Recent Soti MobiControl versions already includes

  • "Allow Modifying eSIM Cellular Plans" option in iOS/iPADOS restrictions profile

  • Support for other eSIM restrictions such as restricting eSIM transfer for iOS18/iPadOS18 devices, preventing deletion of eSIM on supervised device, etc. with  Apple Custom-Profile using .xml

  • "Preserve Data Plan option"  for Remote Wipe device-action of Apple devices

  • Update eSIM Cellcular Plan device-action.

Dear Jake

Yes, adding an eSIM via Apple's Automated Device Enrollment (ADE) is possible with SOTI MobiControl, as it supports eSim deployment through the ADE framework by integrating with Apple Business Manager (ABM).

SOTI MobiControl uses the ADE integration to push the necessary configurations and enrollment policies to the device during initial setup, allowing for automated enrollment and the installation of an eSIM profile and other settings without manual user intervention.

As Raymond has shown it can be managed via webconsole.
