Situation

Depending on the version of SOTI MobiControl, you can take the following three device actions on an offline device in direct boot mode through the platform notifications service.

  • Wipe – Available in SOTI MobiControl version 15.2 and later
  • Reset Passcode – Available in SOTI MobiControl 15.2 and later
  • Unlock the Device and set Passcode – Available in SOTI MobiControl 2025.0 and later

Environment

Devices in direct boot mode that are running Android OS 7 or later.

Process Description

You can use these device actions to:

  • Recover a device in direct-boot mode with a forgotten password.
  • Protect data on a lost device in direct-boot mode by wiping it.
  • Unlock and bring the device online.

Wipe (SOTI MobiControl version 15.2 and later)

The Wipe action restores a device to its factory settings. This action removes all data and unenrolls the device. You must configure the wipe settings when prompted. If the device is in direct boot mode, set the delivery method to Platform Notification Service. Remember that the notification may take a few minutes to reach the device.

Reset Passcode (SOTI MobiControl version 15.2 and later)

The Reset Passcode action changes the device's login passcode. When you select this action, you are prompted to enter the new passcode. If the device is in direct boot mode, set the delivery method to Platform Notification Service. The notification may take a few minutes to reach the device.

Unlock Device and set Passcode (SOTI MobiControl version 2025.0 and later)

The Unlock Device and Set Passcode action sets a new passcode for the device and unlocks it immediately. After selecting this action, you are prompted to enter the new passcode.

  • To unlock the device without changing the passcode, enter the current passcode.
  • To remove the passcode, leave the field blank.

The new passcode must comply with the authentication requirements in your payload. If it does not, the new passcode will not be applied. If the device is in direct boot mode, set the delivery method to Platform Notification Service. The notification may take a few minutes to reach the device.

Screen titled "Unlock Device and Set Passcode" with fields for a new passcode and delivery method. Includes a compatibility warning and note: "1 of 1 devices will not receive this action." Cancel and unlock buttons are at the bottom.
