Process Description

You can deploy applications to Android Enterprise devices using App Policies in two ways:
  • Managed Google Play
  • Enterprise Apps

Creating the App Policy
 
1. On your SOTI MobiControl Web console, navigate to Main Menu > Policies > App Policies.

2.    Select New App Policy and choose the appropriate family of Android devices.
 


3.    Give your App Policy a descriptive name, then select the Apps tab.
 

4.   Select the ADD icon.
 

Choosing a Deployment Method
Choose either Managed Google Play or Enterprise Apps.

Managed Google Play Deployment: 
 
Note:  An enterprise binding is required to use Managed Google Play. This is a Google master account that allows you to manage your organization's applications through the play store.
 
To set up an enterprise binding:
 
1. Navigate to Main Menu > Global Settings, then select Enterprise Binding under Android.
 
 
2. Select Add to be redirected to Google’s Bring Android to Work wizard. Complete the wizard as directed.

    To deploy your app using Managed Google Play:
     
    1. Select Managed Google Play as the source.
     
    1. Choose the appropriate binding for your deployment then select Managed Google Play to open up your Managed Play store.
    1. Search for the application you wish to deploy, then choose SELECT to add the application to the app policy.
    Private App Option:
    You may also choose to deploy an application that is private or an in-house application. To do this: 
     
    1. Select the Lock Symbol in Managed Google Play, then select ADD.
    2. Upload the APK file, give your application a descriptive name, then select Create.
    3. When prompted, enter an email address to receive updates about your application.

    Web App Option:

    You may also choose to deploy your website as an application through the managed play store by clicking on ADD.
     
    1. On Managed Google Play, select ADD.
    2. Enter the required URL, choose the Display Type, select an icon for the web application, then select Create.

     
    Enterprise Apps Deployment:


    To source applications based on an APK file or a downloadable URL:
    1. Select Enterprise.
    Note: Use this option to easily push in-house/ custom Applications.
     
    1. Upload the APK by selecting Browse File then ADD.
    Optionally, you can choose to deploy enterprise applications using an Enterprise URL. Do this by clicking on Enterprise URL, entering the URL, then clicking ADD.
     

    Advanced Configurations Options:
    1. Applications are listed on the App Policy once selected. To further configure an app deployment, select the Settings icon next to it. The Advanced Configuration window opens.
    1. Select one of the following deployment type options:  
    • Suggested: pushes applications to the device's play store as a suggested app. 
    • Mandatory: indicates that the application must be installed.
    1. From the App Update Mode dropdown, choose when the application gets installed.
    • Select Default to push the application when the device is connected to Wi-Fi, charging, and in an idle state.
    • Select Postpone to install the application after 90 days.
    • Select High Priority to install the update automatically when an update is available.

     Optionally you can select Managed App Config to choose advanced options for the application if available.

    Assign the Application:
    1. Once the application is added, select Save, then save and assign to assign the app policy to the devices you wish to target.
