Scan and keyboard input delay / MC version 15.6.1 / Agent version 15.3.0 / Android Enterprise

Solved

Hi all,

two of my customers are currently facing the same issue and we have two support tickets open for them, with no solution yet. Does someone of you having the same issue?

Both customers are on MC version 15.6.1 with the most up to date device agent, version 15.3.0. They are using Android 10 and 11 Zebra devices with different models. They are enrolled as fully managed deivces, Android Enterprise. They use different browser applications for accessing telnet and web applications.

On some devices, after 15 to 60 minutes, a scan and input delay starts and the delay gets longer and longer. Starting with a few seconds, up to more than 20 secsonds. After a restart of the device, the browser or the MC agent, it seems to be gone. But, after the 15 to 60 minutes it starts again and is getting longer and longer. We are not able to figure out which devices are affected. Some device with the exact same configurations / OS / LGU / model are affected, some are not.

It seems that it is not an application side issue because it happens in different applications with different backends. The input is delayed, no matter if we are scanning or typing on the keyboard.

If anyone has similar experiences, feel free to share your thoughts. If I get an answer on one of the tickets, I will update.

Thank you

Felix

Hi Felix,

I have received two similar complaints today. But in our case the issue is only within the Velocity browser.
I found this article: https://forums.ivanti.com/s/article/Velocity-Slow-Key-input-webview-got-automatically-upgraded?language=en_US

Maybe other apps have similar issues with the Webview updates. Both sites are also using MC33 and have not implemented any Lifeguard or OS updates recently, so this is something Google has pushed silent.

Maybe this helps a bit.

This is almost definitely the issue that you're facing. We have seen this WebView update negatively impact Velocity and other applications that are dependent on the System WebView for rendering. Uninstalling the WebView can resolve this issue and you can use Zebra MX to prevent auto-upgrades to the WebView provided that the devices are on a high enough OS version to support the requisite MX.

Don't know if this helps but we recognized the delay on Zebra TC51 (Android 8) always when using the Google keyboard. We switched then to the Zebra Enterprise Keyboard and all went fine. Maybe this could help you also.

Hi Rafael,

thank you but it is not only the software keyboard but also the hardware keyboard on MC93 and MC33x devices.
