Multiple entries for same IMEI & Serial Number

Solved

On MobiControl console, when I searched for a device using IMEI, I can see 2 devices. When I queried database, it also shows 2 records for same IMEI. Only difference is in DeviceId column value.

I've that device & there is no MobiControl installed on it. It is factory reset device which I got from another department.

What possibly wrong could have happened in this case?

My understanding was while enrolling device on SOTI, it does check if similar device(by comparing IMEI/Serial Number) is already enrolled or not. Is my understanding correct?

Hello Sandip,

Thanks for your post!

What kind of device it is? What mobicontrol version you are using? We can perform hard deletion of particular device and re-enroll the device.

I would suggest you to call technical support and open ticket to fix this particular issue.

If this resolves your query, please mark this post as the solution. Also, feel free to reach out if you need clarification or have any questions.

What were the version and build numbers of your MobiControl server when your mentioned devices were enrolled and eventually factory reset?

There used to be check against device of same device-ID and/or IMEI during device entrollment in MobiControl version to help  prevent the same device taking up more than one device license.  All the logs and other related data can then be assoicated back to the re-enrolled device   Also, the assigned device ID was different from IMEI too in some earlier versions.

In more recent MobiControl versions, new add-devices rule options related to preserving device name and location for re-enrolled device have been added, and there is new option about removing database data associated with deleted/unenrolled device.   If all of these options are not enabled, and a device is factory reset while it is offline, then I believe it is possible that the IMEI/device-ID check is skipped and there can be more than one device entry with the same IMEI on the system thereafter.

You can enable "strict-enrollment" in global settings (Global Settings -> Android -> Re-Enrollment Rule).

Then it should not happen. But we had some issues with that in the past but will test that again as soon as we have solved an other issue, so don't know if this has been fixed from Soti site.
