Switching from Java to OpenJDK

Hello dear Soti users,

We are currently using Mobicontrol version 15.6.1.1048 with Java (build 1.8.0_341-b31).

We have been told by our IT management that we should please try to get away from Oracle Java and look for alternatives.

I then found an article on the use of OpenJDK.

SOTI Discussion Forum

I wanted to ask here whether this is still the right way to switch to OpenJDK, as the article is already a little older.

Did you have any difficulties switching?

If I see it correctly, all we have to do is download and unpack OpenJDK. Adjust the registry values and then run the installer again.

Is the distribution of azul zulu also officially supported?

Best regards

Maik

As you are using MobiControl 15.6.x, just following the corresponding online manual at

   https://pulse.soti.net/support/soti-mobicontrol/help/?V=15.6&T=/setup/installing/openjdk

which has a URL to bring you to download the latest OpenJDK11 Windows X64  binary at

   https://adoptium.net/temurin/releases/?version=11

Just run the .msi file with Windows Administrator rights, and I don't think you need to MANUALLY do anything with the registry as mentioned in the article at https://discussions.soti.net/articles/using-mobicontrol-with-openjdk-instead-of-java.  If you really find problem after the .msi installation, open an official support case at support@soti.net to proceed with debugging your case.

Hi MaikStrassmann,

Thanks for posting on SOTI Pulse and thanks Raymond for responding to the post.

The article you are following is quite old, and the newer version of MobiControl does not have specific requirements for registry edits to use OpenJDK.

I would request you download openJDK online and test it.

Thank you.

Kind regards,

Good Morning and thank you,

okay, that looks quite easy! We will try it the next days and install openJDK and deinstall OracleJava.

Best regards
