I was attempting to create an application catalog rule within MobiControl for my Android Devices by searching and shortlisting applications via the Google Play store and I received an error message.
Within the Application Catalog Rule there are 2 Google related options, Managed Google Play and Google Play Store. The Google Play Store option allows the Admin to search the store for any applications and can mark them as Suggested or Mandatory for the device user to install. This method is used for non Android Enterprise devices and requires user interaction to install the applications. When Google makes changes to the Google Play store you may see an error as the location of certain data points may be moved. This will not impede the Admin from continuing to add the application or create the Application Catalog Rule, it is just an indication that a change has been made on the Google Play Store and certain text is unavailable, such as the description of the application.
With the Introduction of the Managed Google Play store and Android Enterprise Enrolled Devices, this will no longer be an issue. As devices transition to Android Enterprise Management, Admin's will be able to navigate directly to the Managed Google Play store and approve applications for their Enterprises that are provided to MobiControl as a shortlist of pre-selected applications. SOTI is looking to embed a new feature that will allow the Admin to traverse the Managed Google Play Store from within MobiControl and approve the applications for their Enterprise. A window would be launched from within MobiControl and would allow the Admin to access all aspects of the Managed Google Play Store without requiring the Admin to ever leave MobiControl.
