Android Enterprise Agent 15.3.3 Issues

I have an open ticket with SOTI, but has anyone else noticed any issues with the most recent Android Enterprise Agent release (15.3.3 build 1069)?

Since that agent update in early March, I can no longer distribute internal certificates from our outbound CLA to Zebra handhelds running Android 11 devices (profile stuck on Pending). I was able to narrow down the issue to the Certificate Templates in the Certificates profile settings.

And then today I just noticed that the MAC address is no longer being displayed on the MC console (showing as unknown). If the device is truly not sending the MAC address, then this is going to be a problem because we rely on it for internal Wi-Fi authentication.

So far, I've been able to replicate on factory reset TC52, TC53, and TC58 devices.

Hi Ryan,

We also have major problems with Soti Mobicontrol since the Agent version 15.3.3. We have lost contact with some of our tablets (100 pieces). We have created a call for this at Soti. Unfortunately, Soti has completely failed since March 13 (start of the problems) and barely responds to this problem. I can't understand how Soti treats his customers like this.

Hey Thierry,

We kinda have the same problem on our ends, did you manage to find a fix to that issue ?

The agent seems to be crashing every now and then on all devices.

We recogniced that the IP is not shown correctly anymore sometimes since the last Agent update but we have already created a case to Soti to look into it regarding this issue.

Rafael,

I also have a case open with SOTI on the agent not reporting the IP address correctly. In my case on Zebra devices, with agent 15.1.4, the agent no longer reports the correct IP address unless it appears to be connected to an IPV6 network.

In my testing, on ATT, Verizon, and WIFI without a SIM, the agent would report the IP address of the connection to the network before the VPN (NetMotion) was established. On T-Mobile, the agent reports the correct IP address (same device no other configuration changes).

This is causing problems for me since I can no longer query to determine what devices are connected to the VPN.

Interesting is, that we see the completely different.

Zebra (TC51) with latest agent showing correct IP (IPv4) but all others are random (some show the correct one, some not).

It's not that big issue for us but if it indicates to be in the correct network or just used for filtering it makes it a bit less comfortable to show the wrong data.

I haven't noticed anything with that agent version yet but that is alarming to hear, especially since many environments get auto-upgraded from Google Play.

My understanding is that the silent installation of Certificates is more of a function of the manufacturer specific plugin than the agent so I would first check there to make sure the plugin is correctly installed. Zebra also hasn't been signing plugins from SOTI for a while so we haven't had a new plugin in years. I almost wonder if the older plugin is starting to show its age or is becoming more and more incompatible over time. I have noticed issues with the plugin on newer devices like the TC53 and TC58 that have prevented Remote Control from correctly working. Ironically, Remote Control works, albeit through a different mechanism, on these devices when the plugin is uninstalled.

I just checked on a sample environment and I can see that recent enrollments of A11 Zebra TC8300, TC52, and TC52ax devices are correctly reporting MAC and IP address while on agent 15.3.3. The environment I checked doesn't have any certificate based Profiles though so I'm not sure of the impact there yet.

15.3.3 had a specific change relative to Certificate installation on Zebra devices so you are likely experiencing a bug relative to this. This may be an unusual suggestion but maybe try to uninstall the Zebra Plugin from a test device (assuming that you have it installed) and then see if the Certificate Profile installs from there. SOTI has been quietly moving more and more traditional manufacturer plugin features into the core Android Enteprise agent. I would predict that we eventually won't need the Plugin on Zebra devices at all. I wish SOTI was a little more transparent about this process however.

Hey Matt,

I saw this maintenance release note, but it seems like they may have broken it even more because I wasn't seeing the issue prior to this 15.3.3 release.

I also tried without and without the Zebra plugin. They're now asking me to configure a new Certificate Template on my CA which I can't get to until next week.

After reviewing their request, I pushed back and told them that I would not be building a new certificate template for them. I've now been able to replicate this issue on two environments and between Android 10 and 11, only Android 11 is impacted.
