Is it possible to make a factory reset without losing SOTI Agent?

Hi,

I need to factory reset one of my devices, but it's not in my office and I cant configure it personally. Is it possible to make a factory reset without losing the Agent, so I can configure it again remotely?

All my devices are SUNMI L2S PRO.

Thanks in advance

On Zebra devices you can Enterprise Reset them which will leave the SOTI agent installed while wiping most everything else that isn't designated as Enterprise Reset Persistent. There is also a standard Factory Reset which will wipe everything including the SOTI agent. Unless your manufacturer offers a similar mechanism to Zebra's Enterprise Reset I'm not sure it's possible to Factory Reset without wiping the agent.

But this even won't mean being able to configure it remotely again.
In that case you need physical access to it as it is not remotely controlable until it's enrolled into the console or did i miss something here?

Thanks both for your answers,

I see that I have to bring back this device so I can configure it. Maybe in a future SOTI could make this option or something similar.

Thanks again

Depending on how you architect it you can have the SOTI agent, enrollment, and WiFi settings survive an enterprise reset so that the majority of the device can be wiped while keeping the minimum configuration needed to have it auto re-enroll. I do this regularly upgrading Helios Zebra devices from A11 to A13 with SOTI without having to re-enroll them manually despite an Enterprise reset occurring as part of that upgrade.

If your primary goal of having the Soti agent after factory reset is to have a mechanism to deter device hardware theft in case the device is lost/stolen, then you should consider using Zero-Touch-Enrollment (ZTE) for devices enrolled in Android-Enterprise mode.

Alternatively, if your primary goal of factory-reset is to have the device re-deployed for use by different end-users frequently, then you should consider how to make good use of shared-device mode rather than forcing factory reset the device hopefully with the device agent intact.

Yes,

I know that a factory reset it's not the best option, but I have a problem with one of my internal apps that the only solution that I found is to make this reset.

So, for now my solution will be to send another device to my colleague and bring back the defective one.

Thanks Raymond
