Soti Enrollment using Google Zero Touch

NM

Hi,

our customer situated in Germany needs to be enrolled on Soti Mobicontrol.

Normally this is no issue and easy done. This case is a bit peculiar,

We can't use any Wifi connection, only option is through the Sim card mobile data.

We are using a Orange simcard with a custom APN then the default.

I have tested the following inside my GZT config but nothing seems to be working.

When i try to enroll the devices i get the error "couldn't connect to the internet".

This is my GZT config i used in my testing:

{

    "android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_LOCALE": "de_DE",

    "android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_LEAVE_ALL_SYSTEM_APPS_ENABLED": true,

    "android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_SKIP_EDUCATION_SCREENS": true,

    "android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_SKIP_USER_CONSENT": true,

    "android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_USE_MOBILE_DATA": true,

    "android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_SKIP_WIFI_SETUP": true,

    "android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_TIME_ZONE": "Europe/Amsterdam",

    "android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_ADMIN_EXTRAS_BUNDLE": {

        "enrollmentId": "******",

        "PROVISIONING_MODE": "FULLY_MANAGED_DEVICE",

        "apn": {

            "name": "Transics",

            "apn": "Transics2.be",

            "mcc": "206",

            "mnc": "10",

"apn_type": "default,supl"

        }

    }

}

I've also tested the following:

{

"android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_LOCALE": "de_DE",

"android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_LEAVE_ALL_SYSTEM_APPS_ENABLED": true,

"android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_SKIP_EDUCATION_SCREENS": true,

"android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_SKIP_USER_CONSENT": true, "android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_USE_MOBILE_DATA":true,

"android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_TIME_ZONE": "Europe/Amsterdam",

 "android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_CUSTOM_APN": "Transics2.be",

"android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_ADMIN_EXTRAS_BUNDLE":

{ "enrollmentId": "****",        "PROVISIONING_MODE": "FULLY_MANAGED_DEVICE"}

}

I think this question may be better suited to the Android Enterprise community since this has more to do with ZTE generically than a SOTI specific ZTE issue.

https://www.androidenterprise.community/

to be honest i never saw APN settings available in ZTE (which doesn't mean they may finally exist) and also haven't found any hint to it.

My best guess would be to enroll the devices via (an enrollment) Wifi (can also be a hotspot from a different phone) or using normal SIM card and provide the APN settinges via Soti afterwards.

I had the same problem with a customer which needed an APN configuration before the enrollment.
I showed them that it is not possible to have an Android Enterprise Work Managed device when you want to configure the APN before the enrollment.(Atleast I Don't know how)

The only opportunity which comes to my mind it to configure the APN settings for manufacturers like Zebra or Honeywell with their own staging software.

I have contacted our provider Orange if they can set the custom APN to the default apn. So that when inserting the simcard there is only 1 APN available to choose from.

We could finally start the enrollment process but we are stuck now on the empty registration field, while this is setup in the GZT configuration.

Anyone that knows how we can make it that the enrollment ID is automatically filled in without us having to manually fill in this ID or have to scan the QR code we create for the enrollment ID

Have you ever successfully use ZTE to get ANY device automatically enrolled upon factory reset in the past?

Did you get problem with just one test device or with multiple devices/device-models in your tests?

Did you leave out the  "android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_CUSTOM_APN" or "apn" item in the configuration files in your latest tests that have your single custom APN set as default by telco operator?

From your screenshot, your device is from Samsung.  There can be problem with some of their model/firmware version(s) and you might need to use Samsung's Knox Mobile Enrollment (KME) instead of ZTE in such case.

Before switching to use KME, do more tests on ZTE.  Debug one step at a time.   Try different config file parameters with this and other device brands/models, and also (firstly) with WiFi rather than APN, in order to rule out possible problems due to typo or inappropriate/missing parameter in the config file, or due to connection channel type.
