Hi Guys

I've had the same error today after upgrading to SQL Server 2016.

Then I've recieved the strange error message with the question marks.

Then I've installed the SQL Server 2016 CU12 Update, you can find it here:

After the install of the CU, the MobiControl Update worked perfectly fine.

Hi Benjamin,

The error is suggesting the Database is not compatible with v15.2, perhaps it's a compatibility level issue. If you open your SSMS then go to properties within the MobiControl DB -> Options. What does the compatibility level show?

I don't have a SSMS.

It is just SQL Express which is installed together with SOTI.

Or did I get your question wrong?

Hi Benjamin,

SSMS short for "Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio", If you don't have it, I recommend you install it to observe the compatibility level of the MC Database.

the compatibility level shows: SQL Server 2014(120)

Interesting, Benjamin I suggest you call the Support Line and we'll be able to expedite the troubleshooting of this issue live. For reference, here's a few Log File location that will be useful for this error:

MCInstall (Installer Logs) - C:\Users\Your-User-Here\AppData\Local\Temp\MCInstall

DBInstall (Database Logs) - C:\DBInstall.log

MCUpgradeHandler (Upgrade Related Logs) - C:\ProgramData\SOTI\MCUpgradeHandler

If you rather send in a support case, feel free to and then provide those three logs along with a timestamp and screenshots/video and we'll proceed.

are you able to run the Setup in English?

I had the first in German to and was getting some Funny or Stange error messages.

When the Setup is running with English i was getting other "Messages" during the Setup, what made more sense.....

Ew are runnning with Windos Server 2016 and SQL Server 2017 Express Release 21 (14.0.3335)

Please install SQl Server 2017 Cumulative Update 8 or later and restart the installation....

German:

Klicken sie auf "ja" um den Kompatibilitätsgrad automatisch auf Microsoft SQl Server 2008 R2 umzustellen

Englisch:

Press "Yes" to let installer automatically change the Compatibility level to Microsoft SQl Server 2012.

The fun fact is that the only SQL installed is SQL Express from Mobicontrol itself.

Nevertheless the error occurs. Which in my opinion doesn't make any sense.

I had only applied this Version to the Test System, so it was no Problem to uninstall and install :D

We have the SQl Server 2017 Express and MobiControl on the Same System.

VM Snapshot macht vieles möglich ;)

PS: May the Upgrade to SQL Server Version 2016 is not in the setup included  from 15.2?

when you upgrade from 15.1.2 to 15.2 the Setup is not Updating the SQL Server Version.

i had installed on an empty Server the 15.1.2 Setup and tryed the Update to 15.2.

Result is the Same Error Message as you get (in German).

I think you must Upgrade the Existing SQL Server 2014 or older to SQL Server 2016 or 2017 Version.

English Message: (seems has been not getting updated to the new requirements)

The Specified database uses, which is NOT Supported by Soti MobiControl V 15.2.0 Please choose a Database Using Microsoft SQL Server 2016 or Above 

Have Updated the test Installation to SQL Server 2017 with the last Built and Setup was running

Then you must when you had upgrade to SQl Server 2017 apply the update to a newer version as relase 8
