Google Play Protect - workaround

Hi!

I just wanted to share a solution for bypassing Google Play Protect problem when installing your apps.

We had this problem for one of our apps but we came up with the following workaround:

Create an Application Run Control profile and set it to blacklist: com.android.vending (Which is the Google Play store)

Also create a Feature Control profile with the setting for "Disable Verify Apps Enforcement" ticked.

Have the Application Run Control profile assigned to the devices as long as they don't have the correct version/not even installed of the app which are getting blocked all the time.

So far this seems to work but we can't really tell if the app gets totally blacklisted in the future which will make Play Protect to actually delete the app but I have not heard of anything like that before.

Aditional info on this, we had similare case where installing an in-house app gave message "Blocked by Play Protect" and "Send app for scanning" showing, not all the time but often.

This was on MobiControl version 15 and whit Android 8.1.

We tried blacklist the "com.android.vending" aswell as some more applications names on Play Store whitout any luck.
However using Application Name %play% and Bundle Identifier %play% worked just fine.

I hope to see in the future a more simple way on this when working on company owned devices where users should not interact on anything else than their work app.

Hello,

Can you detail where did you put %play% exactly please (as asked Matt)?

Thanks.

GPP is going to cause more harm than good in the enterprise space and I feel like we are just getting started. Really hoping that SOTI or other EMMs will get the ability to disable GPP while otherwise leaving Google Play enabled.

Where are you using this %play% macro?
