Updating Add Device Rule Device Name

If the device name used in the ADD DEVICE RULE is updated to a NEW device name, would new devices enrolled after the device name was changed enroll with the older device name or the updated device name?

For instance, if the name originally configured in the ADR was "TC57_%ESN%", and the MCSETUP.ini file was downloaded and being used. At some point the ADR is updated and the new device name is now "TC57_%SerialNumber% but the MCSETUP.ini file is NOT re-downloaded.

What would the device name of newly enrolled devices be if the original MCSETUP.ini file is still being used?

Would SOTI set the device name to the updated ADR configuration or would the MCSETUP.ini configuration be used?

Device(s) already enrolled before the naming pattern change in the add-devices rule will not be renamed automatically according to the new naming pattern.

Device(s) newly enrolled after the naming pattern change in the add-devices rule will be named based on the new naming pattern.   If auto-numbering is used as part of the naming pattern, then device may not start from 00001 if the naming pattern has been used by any add-device rule(s) in the past to get some device(s) enrolled.

Hello Fisch,

Thank you for requesting a response from SOTI Support Staff.

From what I have witnessed the device is using the most current configuration of the ADR, however, I tested this on AE.

Raymond is correct in that already enrolled devices will not update unless you explicitly change the name of the device.

Although this is the case, new devices are obtaining the most up to date configuration and therefore are updating accordingly.

I can imagine SOTI MobiControl would most likely use the original information if the original .ini file is being used, I would have to test this to confirm if that's the case.

Is your installation A+ or AE?

In this case the devices are enrolled using the AE agent and yes the original mcsetup.ini file was used. I understand the devices already enrolled wont update their names but I am actually specifically asking about devices that have not yet been enrolled... Would they enroll using the name set in the older mcsetup.ini file or would they update to the correct name based on the Add Device Rule?

Hello Fisch,

Following up on this thread, were you able to resolve the issue? If yes, I would like to know what were the steps taken to resolve the issue and I can mark that as a Solution.

If not, the answer would be it will name the devices which are newly enrolled as per the updated Enrollment rule.

Also, if this post has helped you in solving your inquiry, I would request you to mark the particular comment as "is solution", so others may benefit from this information.
