PowerBI on Lockdown

What is the simplest way to setup a PowerBI report on the lockscreen?

  1. The report cannot be published to the web
  2. The report must be set to open directly through the PowerBI application
  3. App must launnchwithout constant login
  4. Report must be displayed in the mobile display version within PowerBI

This would be for a Samsung Android tablet running latest versions of SOTI and PBI.  I have used locked down actions of intent, browser, http, launch, custom, etc as well as the basic template html, but do not hit all four criteria above.

Dear  @Mel

Thank you for posting on SOTI Pulse.

To get a SOTI MobiControl Power BI report on a device's lock screen, you must create a Power BI report specifically optimized for mobile devices, then view and pin that report to the device's home screen via the Power BI mobile app. You cannot directly display a Power BI report on the actual native device lock screen itself, but can place a shortcut to the mobile-optimized report on the device's home screen.

Creating a Mobile-Optimized Report

  1. Use Mobile Layout View: In Power BI Desktop or the Power BI service, utilize the "Mobile layout" view to design a report layout specifically for mobile devices.
  1. Design for Portrait Mode: Arrange your visuals in a vertical, single-column layout, which is ideal for portrait viewing on a phone.
  1. Optimize for Touch: Ensure interactive elements are easily tappable on a smaller screen.

Accessing and Pinning the Report on a Device

  1. Install Power BI App: Ensure the Power BI mobile app is installed on the SOTI-managed device.
  1. Access the Report: Open the Power BI mobile app and locate the report in the "Apps," "Shared with me," or "Workspaces" sections.
  1. Pin to Home Screen: While viewing the report on the mobile app, look for options to pin or add the report to the device's home screen. This creates a direct shortcut to the report on the device's home screen, not its native lock screen.

Viewing in a Lockdown Profile (SOTI)

  • Pre-Login Lockdown:

You can create a Pre-Login Lockdown Profile in SOTI MobiControl to enable specific applications to run before a user logs in.

  • Device Information and Scripts:

Within this profile, you can configure device status, applied policies, and even set up scripts that execute when a device enters or exits a specific mode.

  • Native Lock Screen:

The Power BI report will not display on the native device lock screen, but a device can be locked to display a custom lockdown screen from the SOTI MobiControl console.

The default application for viewing a power BI report link should be the Power BI application. What is the behavior that you see with the Power BI application installed and just a link on the kiosk to report? I would start with that and see what happens then adjust from there. You may try to just edit the html of the kiosk to add the link to the report as a test. Hope this helps a little, take care for now.
