Flashlight/Torch switch on/off for Android Zebra devices

Solved

Hello,

For some zebra devices (such as TC27, ET45) AE Work managed OS13+, we'd like to assign button map key to switch on/off Flashlight/Torch when a physical button (Button_L2) is pressed on the device side, so when user is using another mobile application, they can directly switch on/off the flashlight, without going back to the lockdown

I've reviewed remapping actions which is good, but I can't find out the Flashlight's bundle_ID or any configuration from MX side to toggle the flashlight (to make it on/off when trigger).

We've already asked it to Zebra, but there is no feedback yet, so just wondering does anybody from this community know:

- how to remap the button to flashlight for switch it on/off

- or any other config that may help for this

- or intent that can trigger this, but as we don't know the action/package/class name of the system flashlight, I can't design the intent yet

P.S. Using a 3rd party android application is the last option here. But any other feedback is welcome.

Have a great weekend, and thank you already!

Hi Zafer,

there were similar requests in the past about it already but i guess the result was always the same like here: https://discussions.soti.net/thread/flashlight-shortcut-kiosk-mode

So, first of all i guess you need to look for an intent instead of a bundle ID and add that to the button or the camera app is the bundleID with relevant parameters or so but the real clarification can only be provided by the camera app developer which is Zebra in this regard.

If you are fine with android apk programming you could also extract that apk and do reverse engineering to see if there's something build into the camera app if you don't get responses from Zebra.

But finally i guess, if Zebra won't help (for whatever reason) you won't be able to get around a (already mentioned by you) 3rd party app that ideally supports intent control, so you can do what you want without launching that app.

Hi Zafer,

I had the same questions by a customer last summer.
The only solution we found was to use the SOTI Settings Manager.
In one of the latest versions you are able to use the flashlight.
As I remember correctly there is no bundle_ID for it.
I think when you open the flashlight and use the script "identify_activity" there is no feedback in the webconsole.
Maybe you can activate the recent button in the lockdown and switch between settings manager and the main app.

We talked about this last year already: https://discussions.soti.net/thread/flashlight-shortcut-kiosk-mode

I didn't found another solution for this request.

Best regards
Leon

Thank you very much all for your feedback. We'll use a 3rd party app until there is a better method in future. Have a great day
