My Samsung devices are reporting inaccurate device time, cannot set the Time Zone as devices are physically moving across time zones regularly (e.g. devices in vehicle).

Devices are being kitted for a new deployment and are powered down and shelved after kitting is complete. When the devices are coming on line some of them are showing inaccurate time reported in the logs. Is there a way to automate the time zone settings to enable these 2 settings as we already have a number of devices that have been completed.

Hi Katie,

Thank you for posting on SOTI Pulse.

I would suggest configuring the "Time Synchronization" advanced configuration, which is available on a per-device or per-device group basis.

On a side note, in some circumstances, you may also benefit from using the Knox Service Plugin, which is Samsung's implementation of OEM Config. I have included a link to this below for you. You will find additional functionality on top of MobiControl, which is specific to OEMs. However, it does seem Knox Service Plugin doesn't support enabling "Automatic time zone" at this time.

Configuring Time Sync in SOTI: I cannot set this because it asks to set a specific time zone. These devices will be traveling through different time zones daily so I cannot configure for it for just one.

KSP: I have looked through KSP as well and have not seen any configuration options for this setting either. Zebra Stagenow has this option, I wish KSP would get on board. I was hoping there was some kind of secure script I could send to turn the automatic time zone on for these devices.

Hi Katie,

If your devices have GPS hardware enabled and battery life is not a major problem, you can consider using multiple geofence alert rules whose action are to relocate device between different device groups when crossing/entering  time-zone related geofence.  You can then set different time-zone in  "Time Synchronization"  advanced configuration for each of the device groups

Thanks for your response. Right now these scripts attached are working for us and turning on the 2 options below. I do not have a device in another time zone to make sure it will set to that time zone as I'm in EST time zone and so is the server but I plan to test this out when we get a device deployed to another time zone. I will update my findings when the time comes

Hi Katie,

I can see that you do have scripts in hand and as per your last comment you would be testing the same.

Could you let me know if you have already tried it and has it worked for you or not.

Accordingly, if this has worked can you please mark that suggestion as solution.

Thank you for choosing SOTI.
