Install APP & config Velocity on Android 12

Hi everyone,

I need to configure the Velocity application on Andoird 12 terminals. I followed the ZEBRA article "Distribute Velocity Client Settings Using SOTI MobiControl" about this but a WEB connection is required.
My client doesn't have web access, so I can't use the corporate store.
Does anyone have a trick to push configuration files from an app on android 12 ?

What Zebra devices are you deploying that already support Android 12? I am only aware of support up to A11 at this point for the SD660/Helios devices. While I am curious, regardless of A11 vs A12 you'll likely run into the same issues given the restrictions on Scoped Storage access:

https://discussions.soti.net/articles/impact-of-android-11-scoped-storage-restrictions-on-android-enterprise-work-managed-devices

The method outlined in the article that you've referenced utilizes some rather complex combinations of Managed Configs deployed for both OEMConfig and the Velocity app.

At present, Managed Configurations can only be distributed to devices via the Managed Play Store with SOTI. This means that devices have to have network access to the Public Play Store servers in order to receive these configurations. In the future we might see SOTI add support for "offline" Managed Configs, but that is not something supported today.

Your client would either need to open up the network access in order to allow for connectivity to the Play Servers or you'd have to stick with Android 10 for now since you have the ability to push the config files directly to the devices under A10 and below.

Hi Matt,

I thought I could configure the Manifest Info with StageNow with an Intent command or something ...
This would be an important argument in the choice between consumer hardware and Zebra.

A configuration intent would be an interesting alternate approach but that would be up to Ivanti to build an intent receiver into their Velocity app to accept a manifest configuration that way. StageNow can send intents, and so can SOTI scripts, but if the app on the receiving end isn't expecting that intent it won't do anything with it.

Hi Nicolas Le Bihan,

Thank you for your post on SOTI Central.

Are you able to install the Velocity application on Android 12 for closed network devices as per @Arseniy Osipov 's suggestion?

Kind Regards,

Just for future reference, with Ivanti Velocity 2.1.21 there is an additonal method of distribution the config files with use of a helper app "file assistant": https://help.ivanti.com/wl/help/en_US/Velocity/2.1/admin/file-assistant.htm
