I'm surprised that not even one support moderator from Soti provides you with any answer.

While latest MobiControl Stage Programmer app does support configuration file, the configuration options are in plain ASCII format and thus cannot serve your purpose of obscuring configuration details to allow non-administrator to use the app.   

I personally agree with what you suggest, and hope Soti can include your required functions in future release of their Stage Programmer app.   It would also be nice if they have proper documentation about these advance uses of the app.

I think Matt's question was in reference to the mobile 'SOTI Stage Programmer' app that is available on the app store. The naming convention between the desktop Mobicontrol Stage application and the SOTI stage programmer app for android is a bit confusing. 

That mobile app doesn't seem to save data once input, and you have to re-enter it every time - even if the device already received the data from another device using the same app.  There doesnt seem to be a config file to store that data for re-use.

That's correct Aaron. Apparently SOTI's own support staff doesn't know the difference 🤦🏻‍♂️

As mentioned in my earlier post,  the MobiControl Stage Android app does support config file.  However, what have been input on the device app UI will not be saved into this config file.  Instead, it is meant to be read by the app (just like mcsetup.ini file for enrollment) on startup and bypass whatever parameters are input in the app UI.

Is there any documentation around that config file? I found an nfc text file in the /sdcard shared space but it is completely empty so I'm not sure if that's the right file, or what the correct format should be if it is.

Sorry for the late reply.  Just got up at 7:30 am half an hour ago, and noticed your follow-up question.

The file  I know of has the name "nfcprovisioning.txt".   I'm not sure if it is really only for NFC provisioning, or if there is another file for QR code provisioning.   I know and hack only a little bit about the use of the config file, and I myself am looking for full documentation on the config file(s).

As I have to uphold my own reputation throughout my career life in different technical fields, and would feel ashamed if I put inaccurate or misleading information up on a public forum like this one,  so please excuse me for restraining myself from mentioning too much about the config file previously.  With our feedbacks here,  let's see if someone from Soti can give everyone more authoritative information or have some specialist updating relevant section(s) in the online manual.

Unfortunately, the ability to leverage a Managed Configuration or external config file for the Stage Programmer application isn't a possibility at the moment as is. 

Our Product managers have reviewed the post and agree with you that this could be a very useful way of provisioning devices though.  Thank you for bringing it to our attention.  As a result of your inquiry, they are preparing some publicly available documentation that I can share regarding the SOTI Stage Programmer.   

They have requested that you and anyone else that thinks that this would be a useful feature, to please submit a case here and make a "feature request" for having the ability to set managed config options for the Stage Programmer.
