Device Time Synchronization via NTP server

Hi,

I'm posting on the forum to know if any of you have already set up / used the time synchronization via an external NTP server (not via the DS MobiControl). If this is the case, do you have any configuration recommendations? How to determine the periodicity at which the MobiControl server synchronizes with the NTP server ?

Also, do you have any feedback on the use of this time synchronization method? Is it reliable?

(I read the page https://www.soti.net/mc/help/v14.3/en/console/reference/dialogs/devicesettings/devicetimesynchronization.html)

Many thanks for your feedback / recommendations.

(For information we have 1800+ devices enrolled via AE DO method)

Yoan

Just serach on the web for list of NTP/SNTP servers. I personally prefer servers host by governmental department (e.g. observatory) or big giants.  Thus, for my customers in Hong Kong,  I often recommend their servers to use the Hong Kong Obseratory NTP server.  You can choose based on your location or other considerations.

If  the  disable-device-date-and-time-settings feature control works on a device, there might not be a need to frequently synchronize with NTP/SNTP server.  Otherwise,  I often recommend my customers to set re-synchronization at 5-minute interval if data traffic cost and battery life are not major concern.

For AE-DO devices, device time synchronization with SNTP/NTP server requires AE plug-in to be installed.

Hello Raymond,

Many thanks for your answer and for experience sharing !

Regarding the "disable-device-date-and-time-settings feature control" are you referring to the "Disable changes to Time and Date" feature available only (it seems) for Android+ ?

Thank you.

Yoan.
