Can't Launch Apps after reboot in Kiosk Lockdown Type Activity Suppression

Solved

We have several Zebra TC57s running Android 11 w/Enterprise Management
When in Kiosk Lockdown Type Native everything works as desired but we lose access to the Recent Button.
We were told to switch to Activity Suppression to gain access to the 'Recent Button' in Kiosk mode.
After switching to Activity Suppression, Apps on the home screen will not launch, when clicking the icon, after rebooting or powering the unit off and on.
If we revoke the Kiosk mode and assign it, or just restart kiosk mode with a script, we are able to click on the App icon and it will open.  Everything will remain functional until the unit is rebooted or powered off and on.

We need the 'Recent Button' to kill apps and I've read there is some issues between Zebra/Soti/Android Enterprise when trying to script this functionality in Native mode.

Thoughts?

Hi David,

we have the Same Issue with a TC52xafter Android 11 upgrading.

When i use the "Native" Mode after a reboot i am only able to open the MobiControl App.

All other apps cant be open, with switching to "Activity Suppression" it is the able to open all Apps.

We had opend a Case at Zebra Supprt they are investigating.

In the Meantime i get a Workaroundfrom Zebra TECH:

Create an Alter Rue:

Type: Device Event

Create Alert Rule: Device Connected -> Execute script on Device -> notify kisok on

Even when a devie reboots it is getting this Script and the Kiosk Mode is working with "Native" Mode.

Here Thanks to the Zebra TECH Support :)

We had the Same issue with Hnoeywell Devices with the 660 Chip.

For A10 is it fixed with the next Relase and in the brand new A11 is it also appearing the issue :(

Thank you!  We have a ticket open with Soti.  Unfortunately, the tech we are working with was going in the direction of switching to Activity Suppression and trying to get the 'Recent Button' to work which I'm pretty sure is an impossibility from what I read.

Your solution works great.  Thanks again!

You should be able to enable the Recents button in Native mode within your lockdown configuration. This works for Android 9 devices and higher:

My apologies. You are absolutely correct.  I flip flopped the Lockdown types in my question.  In Kiosk Lockdown type "Activity Suppression" everything works as desired.  When we switch to Native Mode, to gain access to the Recent Button, we have an issue where clicking the App icon on the home screen "does nothing" after a soft or hard reset.  Sending device action 'Enable Kiosk Screen', restarting Kiosk Mode with a script, or revoking/assigning Kiosk mode all resolve the issue until the next soft/hard reset.

Sorry for the confusion.

What are you linking to in the Lockdown?
Are they links to the bundle ID of an APK or are you linking to something else like a URL, script, or Surf link?
What version of the agent are you using?
Are you seeing anything in logcat when attempting to launch the links that might explain why it is failing?
Are you seeing an error when tapping on the links (e.g. Package not found) or is just nothing happening at all?

Just for information, a Google Pixel 6 (Android 12) experiences the same issue in native lockdown. So this is not a specific Zebra or Honeywell problem. I would say this is an Android 11/12 issue.

Good to know.  Hopefully there is a resolution in the works.
