Latest releases of v13.4.x and 14.2.x do support web bookmark on the home screen for Android Enterprise device in managed-device mode. You of course need to consider many technical and non-technical factors specific to your implementation to see if it is worth the time and effort to upgrade.
Also, bookmarks within Chrome browser can be configured if your Chrome browser is deployed from Managed Google Play Store and you have configured the right AppConfig-compliant parameter(s) in the Advanced options tab associated with the Chrome browser item in your App-Catalog rule.
Thats great, we have the latest. Do you have a hint on how to deploy the web bookmark on the homescreen?
Any documentation or the likes?
Hi
I've made a profile like this, but I cant seem to find the webpage link anywhere?
Profile has been applied on the phone when I check
I'm sorry that the mentioned profile is actually for bookmark on default browser rather than on the home screen. Weblink on the home-screen has been supported on iOS platform for years, and similar feature on Android platform has actually been included in a recent feature request which I've got mixed up with when answering your post.
So, until the new feature requested is implemented, you currently have to live with adding bookmark on default browser or Chrome as mentioned earlier. Two other alternatives on Android Enterprise platform will be
1. Use Soti Surf browser - you can define kiosk mode with predefined home-page/book-mark(s).
2. Use kiosk mode with item https:// or surfs:// or browsers:// specifying the target URL
If the devices are configured with SOTI lockdown then you can easily add a shortcut to a particular URL on the screen. If the devices are more of COPE or BYOD devices then that might not be as relevant however.
How do we do it though? Lots of threads say it can be accomplished but there is no explanation.
