File Sync Policy Android - Unsupported path

File Sync Policy Android

Download from Server
The documentation states that the complete path can be entered in Server File / Folder Name.
This has worked so far.
As of version 2025, the error message appears:
The server path you are trying to use is out of the file sync "%Root%". Please use a path within the specified root. Unsupported path
But I don't see any way to change the %Root% or input the Path on the local Server.

In MobiControl v2025 the %ROOT% is defined in Mobicontrol database: dbo.Settings > FileManagementFolder.

By default it's set to C:\Mobicontrol.

OK, I understand and can work with it.

But the documentation says:
Enter the complete file system path to the files or folders on the server you want to synchronize with the device.
You can also select [Symbol] to access the File Manager to choose a file or folder.
And that doesn't work in an OnPrem installation.
The 2025.0.1 is still very buggy at the moment.

It works in the cloud version.

Thank you Radim

Hi @Alfred,

In addition to what Radim mentioned, you can move any files that you want to use under the related MobiControl root folder on your MobiControl server first, and then you can select this folder by clicking on the import icon on the File Sync Policy that will fill-in the syntax by itself.

If there is any issue that may be better to create a support case when required. I hope it helps.

Thank you

Yes, it' correct for the Cloud version.

Update:

The problem is not solved in version 2025.0.2.1059.

In the OnPrem installation, you cannot change or edit the root directory.

A path in the format C:\MyFiles\... is not accepted.

Agreeing with Alfred here.

Very disappointed that SOTI has made this change without any regard for those still operating on prem and without even the courtesy of updating the help documentation to save people from wasting time on it.

From v2025.0 Support Page: https://www.soti.net/mc/help/v2025.0/en/console/reference/dialogs/rules/filesync/android/ngui_filesync_configure.html

Server File/Folder Name Enter the complete file system path to the files or folders on the server you want to synchronize with the device. You can also select to access the File Manager to choose a file or folder.

Although you can use either a UNC path (\\) or a local path ([drive]:\) for the server path, SOTI strongly recommends using a UNC path. Use a local path only where you use one deployment server, and the local path is on the deployment server machine. If you require a different user name or password to access a UNC path, use the following syntax:  \\server\Shared\file.docx,u=user,p=password.

Note: Make sure that the deployment server has the right permissions to read from the source path and write to the destination path.

This field is mandatory.

Then I found this:

On-Prem Installation:
  • In an OnPrem installation, you cannot change or edit the root directory.

A nightmare...

Why SOTI did that as it worked very well before this change?

What is the reason?

In my opinion it is a regression as we can have a cohabitation between old rules with C:/ path and new %ROOT%/ path.
