MATT HELP -> zebra tc75 entreprise keyboard not there

Hello all,

we have so many device under zebra tc75x (android 6 and 7)

A time ago we have some problem with the google keyboard and decide to use the entreprise keyboard !

i have made a rule for to disable the google keyboard and use the entreprise keyboard.

But i can't understand, on some device the zebra entreprise keyboard is not there !!!

see picture...and of course the rule make the zebra keyboard as default but not there !

after reboot device has NO KEYBOARD !!!!

Sorry i post here because it's enough urgent sorry !

perhpas matt can help me ..

Thanks a lot for any suggestion because i need to check all device -> 400 for to see if keyboard is there or not !

EKB used to be a standalone APK that was sideloaded until it was moved into being a system application that is part of the base OS for the device. I can’t remember exactly when this transition occurred but it definitely occurred during the lifetime of the TC75 and TC75x. I am theorizing that you likely have a inconsistency in the BSP / OEM versions you’ve have deployed across your Zebra inventory which would explain why some of the devices have EKB as a system app, and some don’t. I strongly encourage consistently of firmware version across your inventory for this reason, and very much in general.

thanks a LOTTTTTTTTTT ….

Exactly on some device and i don't know WHY the zebra keyboard IS NOT INSTALLED !

When a user need a new device for some reason, tehcnicien take the device in the stock

add in in mobicontrol, add the device inside folder follow the role of the user

all is installed after.

Last night, i have configured a rules for to deploy the zebra keyboard and this morning ..

The help desk NEVER STOP TO CALL me :) :) 

@john -> yes i just finish the test, and of course on some device the zebra keyboard isn't install

i have well download and install the keyboard -> run the rules and all it's ok for the moment.

@matt -> yes thanks for the explanation i though the EKB was installed on all device zebra !

You saved my lived and my salary i think :) :) :)

because imagine a driver who used a mobile device without keyboard ...it's not possible !

While side-loading the older version of the EKB to your devices running older OS versions got you out of trouble in the short term, longer term I would still strongly recommend getting your devices on a consistent OS and LG version as you will continue to expose yourself to these kind of inconsistencies. The last published EKB APK was 1.6 for instance, whereas 2.1.x is installed within the OS in later BSPs and LG versions.
