What are the things need consideration while upgrade Mobicontrol 15.5.1

Hello Guys,

We are planning to upgrade our SOTI Mobicontrol from 15.4.3 to 15.5.1. We have On-pre server and last time we upgraded 15.5.0 and faced lots of problem then rolled back.

Kindly suggest what are the things need to be consider before upgrading Mobicontrol 15.5.1.

Do we need to re-enroll devices.

We have maximum Android zebra devices TC51, TC52, TC52x and TC57.

Thanks in advance.

Soti should able to assist you in that case the best but you don't have to re-enroll your devices. Our server-provider did this upgrades also for us and we never needed to re-enroll any device. That would be a No-Go when you handle thousands of devices.

Hi,

first i recommand never Upgrade to a Brand new Mayjor Relase.

Wait till the First 1 or 2 Relases are placed then you are really safe ;)

Have alook here: https://www.soti.net/mc/help/v15.5/en/setup/upgrading/upgrading.html

You are able to Upgrade directly frm 15.4.3 to 15.5.1 but check the needed requirements for the 15.5.* on your Server:

https://www.soti.net/mc/help/v15.5/en/setup/installing/system_requirements.html?hl=system%2Crequirements

Take a snapshot beore you start from Server and Database.

May test it on your test installation to be safe ;)

Any requirement to re-enroll any previously enrolled device is of course unacceptable if anyone is talking about a PROPERLY done server upgrade.

After checking official documentations such as MobiControl server release notes,  information shared in this discussion forum, or consulting Soti/resell on the best relative stable version(s), some test(s) about mission-critical features used on real hardware may need to be performed.  The more diversified device platforms or device brand/model/firmware you have in your existing implementation, the more risk assessments or tests need to be performed.

These varies with factors such as

- the policies you are currently deploying in relevant device platform(s)

- the apps and association configurations, especially for mission criticial apps.

- compatibilities of deployed device agents with the new server version

- new/modified requirements related to network, runtime library, certificate, ...

- upgrade path and right procedure/sequence

etc.

For big complex mission-critical implementation, expert should be consulted or hired to perform the upgrade in order to ensure smooth upgrade.  Otherwise, some factors in the risk assessment/test may be overlooked.   Please note that fallback may sometime be impossible even with back-ups/snapshots are taken if the wrong upgrade procedure is performed earlier.  In such case,  out--of-control devices due to such IMPROPER upgrade procedure may need to be recalled for re-enrollment..

Hi Nikhil,

Thanks for your query on SOTI Central.

To answer your question correctly, it will be required to check the configuration of your MC in detail and the steps taken when in upgrading to 15.5.0.

But in general, if the upgrade path is followed and the system requirements are met, your upgrade should be successful.

https://www.soti.net/mc/help/v15.5/en/setup/upgrading/upgrade.html

Also as Marcus and Raymond said, server snapshot is a must in advance of the upgrade task.

If you have concerns about upgrading your MC to 15.5.1, you’d better to contact our support team for help during the upgrade or when you found something wrong after upgrade. Then we can help you on the phone or on online meeting by sharing screen.
