Use of a URL in a App in Kioskmodus not allowd by Soti Surf.

I use Samsung tablets with a Kiosk mode from Soti. There are some apps in this Kiosk mode. One of these Apps has a few URLs that must be accessible. There are also some fullscreen websites with Soti Surf in the Kiosk mode. If you now click on an URL from an App you will be notified that this URL is not allowed. This is a report from Soti Surf. Can I set somewhere that this URL can be visited without having to put these websites in Kiosk mode or is that not possible?

Please clarify your current situation:

Are you using a Lockdown menu/kiosk-mode profile with kiosk item(s) "surfs://" and "launch://", and at the same time also have the Kiosk mode of Soti Surf secure-browser enabled?

Did you use application-run-control or lockdown/kiosk-mode profiles to make Soti Surf to be the only web browser available on your system such that Soti Surf is used whenever your special apps tries to access some URL's ?

What are the version and build numbers of your MobiControl server and agent?  What about those of Soti Surf?

Have you tried adding the URL's needed by your special app in the website whitelist under "Enable Website Filtering" configuration in the "Soti Surf" configuration payload of your profile?

Did you say you get notification that the URL is not allowed from a Soti Surf report?  Could you elaborate how you get that report or what you see on the device screen?  Is there any firewall profile configured?

I believe your answer in previous post may not be accurate.  When you rspecial app accesses a specific URL,  I guess it is not using Soti Surf secure browser, but rather the default browser (Chrome or webkit based renderer instance) on your device.  You can confirm that if you let your special app accessing the URL without kiosk mode enabled.

If that is the case, and you don't mind the app accessing the required URL with some browser engine other than Soti Surf,  you might need to add the browser engine in your kiosk/application-run-control whitelist.

I have made a screenshot of the error message and enclosed this message.

I do not use a firewall.

I have no other browser installed on the tablet, only Soti Surf. I also use afw@mobicontrol for the configuration.

If I do not use the kiosk mode when using the link in the App I get the choice to use Soti Surfer and then the error message.

I get exactly the same error using the latest version available. Works if not using Kiosk mode... what's the difference?

Same issue.

We tried without kiosk mode, applied some whitelist filters and it works fine.
Put it in kiosk mode and it stops working and get the error shown above.

Seems like a weird bug.

Hi Carlos,

Thank you for requesting an answer to this post. I would have to see if I can recreate this issue. Are you having any difficulties with your own Soti Surf configurations as well?

Can you provide me any details of the device, MobiControl version, Soti Surf version, and the websites you are trying to access? Is it possible for you to try it on the latest version of Surf and or MobiControl and see if the issue still persists?

I will try testing and will let you know of the results.

Hi Carlos,

After some testing, we were unable to recreate the issue. Could you please either provide more information regarding the device, MobiControl version, and Soti Surf version for further investigation?

Otherwise, I would suggest for you to create a case with Soti Support.
