Google Playstore 45.2.19-29 [0] [PR] allows Device Config with active Lockscreen

It is possible with active KIOSK Mode that the User can change settings on the Device (without a restriction of MobiControl agent), as the user would be in the "system Preferences" menu.

What i can see is the affected Version from the Playstore : 45.2.19-29 [0] [PR] 732221263

With the Version 45.2.19-31 [0] [PR] 732221263 is the option not available.

How to reproduce with Playstore Version 45.2.19-29

  • Open Playstore
  • Tab on the User icon (right top)
  • Go to Settings
  • Expand the menu "General"
  • Tab on "Notification Settings"
  • Tab on "Account"
  • Then you see on the Right top Side the "magnifying glass"
  • Klick on it
  • Then you can search and do many device configuration , when you know for what you need to search.
  • Like wifi changes or other Settings on the Device

MC Version 2024.1.2 & 2025.0.2

Device Agent : 2025.0.4.1100

When i go into the Playstore and klick "Update Play Store" it says "Google Play Store is up to Date" , when i enroll a new Devcie it is installing the Version "45.2.19-31" and all is fine.

Actually my only idea is to:

  • Install the Playstore update manually on the Devices
  • Reomve the Playstore from the Kiosk Screen

Has someone of you faced the same issue, or ideas ?

To be honest, never tested that but i also do not see any reason if i provide a kiosk (lockdown) why i should provide the playstore there.

You need to be carefull on all apps to provide.
Example from our side: If you provide an app where you can type in something using gboard (as example) you can do Google (chrome) searches using the gboard even neither Chrome or Google is part of it.

I agree. I don't understand why you would need to have a device configured in a Kiosk mode while simultaneously giving the end user access to Google Play.

I could think of allowing access to Play Store to enable end user manual app upgrade because automatic upgrades are hit&miss. I have customer where Playstore app is not getting upgrade for more than year on multiple devices.

We have seen this yet only iwhen apps get stuck on the playstore turning out they are all Google system/default apps. After adding them as well as an app policy, we never had this issue again.
Just as a side note.

It doesn't matter if they are system (also added to the App policy) or installed using App policy - they are just not updating automatically. The only way is to manually click update button in the playstore.

Hi Marcus Breitenthaler,

Thank you for posting on SOTI PULSE.

Could you please provide more details regarding your question? From my understanding, you are experiencing issues with automatically updating Google Play Store while the device is in Lockdown Mode.

Kindly confirm if this is correct, or provide additional information so we can better assist you.

Thank You.
