I want to display link on lockdown page to open a .htm file on a windows share

we do this on our older windows mobile devices such as:

\\networkshare\test.htm

the first time accessing the link a login to the share is requested where the user will put in their username\password and have that saved so the next time they want to .htm page viewed it will not ask for anything.

when I put in this same link on my lockdown page, android OS I get a:

webpage not available

could not be loaded because:

net:ERR_INVALID_URL

what do I need for this to work like it did on the windows devices

thanks

Hi larry,

Thanks for your question.

In order to investigate further please provide the following details.

- MobiControl server version

- MobiControl agent version

- Soti Surf version

- Screenshots of the configuration applied, so I can recreate the issue

- is the file on the network or on the device?

- Please check this information which could be useful:
https://www.soti.net/mc/help/v15.2/en/console/reference/dialogs/profiles/androidplus/profile_lockdown_addmenuitem_androidplus.html

Looking forward to your reply thank you.

Do you use Managed playstore?

If yes: you can provide this as a web-app (opened in chrome) maybe this will work.

we do no use managed play store however I was able to install an android file explorer on the device that will access my windows share.

Now I need to figure out how to get the "surf browser" to open the .htm file

for ex:

\\networkshare\test.htm

how can I get that to open using a lockdown page and open in sofi surf

Hi  larry,

Following up on your post

Please open SOTI Surf and type the location in surf address bar

Example: file:///sdcard/Download/examplehtml.htm

Additionally, you can add this as a "home screen item" on Lockdown mode. Please check the image below as example.

Note: The SOTI Surf app must be installed on the device and configured with a SOTI Surf profile configuration.

Looking forward to your reply thank you.

Hello DRMOD

We are on Soti ver: 15.01

the htm file will display when I place the file in the:

file:///sdcard/Download/example1.htm however the file can't be found when I point the link to our network share

I used a file explorer app to connect to the windows file share from this android device

I was hoping once that file explorer was configured to access the windows share it could stay opened in the background

and then a link could be used to open that .htm file since it had permissions to get to that share

however it says net: err file not found when using the link pointed to the network share instead of sdcard location.

on our older windows mobile devices, one could place the same link in the lockdown page then the first time you click on the link it would ask for username and password (to access the file share), after that it would open the htm file fine

now I wondering since the htm file is opening in the downloads local folder if I could just create a file rule to download this

htm file from our windows share every 2 minutes or so (the reason is the htm file shows updated information every 2 minutes so it needs a new one)

perhaps I could try this method, what do you think?

I think the file sync to the sdcard/download location will work however I'm getting a "access denied" message

I want the soti server to be able to access this share, can anyone point me in the right direction

do you know if I can change the sotiservice to use a different account as I'm having a "access denied" message when using a file share rule to upload a file to my device

Hi larry,

Thank you for your answer.

Can you please check if the file has been downloaded in the location selected?

Are you able to access to this file manually,  please check if you are able to open the file from Admin mode?

Also you can try to open the file in another browser (Chrome)?

Looking forward to your reply thank you.

Hi Larry,

Mobicontrol device agent should have no access permission issue when accessing the device's Download directory.

Your problem can be due to incorret format of the device directory in your file-sync rule.  Different device may have different mount point for the Download directory of the device file-system.  To maximize compatibility, one usually use macro in MobiControl file-sync rule.  Please re-try using

     %sdcard%/Download

instead.

If it's still not working, please share how you set server file/folder in your file-sync rule.
