Alert for failed File Sync Rule

Hello,

we have created a few file sync rules, and they are working quite well, but how can we assure that we are getting an alert if they stop working?

I've seen that there is an alert for a successful sync but nothing for the case of a failure.

Any suggestions on how to solve that?

Are they failing? My general philosophy is to figure out why things are failing and to address the root cause in order to be able to automate as much of the environment as possible. Alerting you of a failure then requires some sort of acknowledgement and manual interaction. I'd rather eliminate the failure point completely so that I don't have to fix individual failures. If File Syncs are failing then the EMM isn't doing it's job for one reason or another and that's where I would focus my attention if it were me. Perhaps you could share the nature of the failures you're running into so that we could help troubleshoot that for you?

Was it failing at Android 11 Devices ?

Or other more information for us ?

Hy,

it's not especially the matter of failure, more just the thing of not working.

We were having this one time after an agent update. Unfortunately, we recognized it only a few days later.

Devices are all on Android 10.

Is there a possible solution for an alert or any other notification to inform us when the file sync rule can't do his determined task?

Was it the recent upgrade to 15.1.1.1031? If so, the reaction I had to that situation was figuring out how to prevent auto upgrades to the Agent from happening in the future. That automatic agent upgrade via Google Play was a variable previously outside of my control that ultimately broke something and jeopardized the stability of my SOTI environments. The issue from my perspective wasn't that the new agent broke certain File Sync rules, among other things, the issue was that the agent was installed automatically in an uncontrolled manner. I now have Google Play restricted in many environments and Zebra MX applied to the Zebra devices in order to prevent auto-upgrades from happening in the future.

You could in theory figure out how to get alerts of File Sync rule failures, but that just happened to be the side effect you experienced most recently as a result of an agent upgrade. The next auto-upgrade to a new agent version would possibly break some other functionality that maybe you don't have alerting set up for. Therefore I would recommend working to disable the auto upgrades to the agent versus trying to set up Alerts for the side effects of the recent agent upgrade issues.

Hi Florian,

Thanks for your post!

We currently don't have the option to set a Device Event Alert for File(s) Synchronized. You can contact SOTI Support (support@soti.net) to open a new case and raise this as a Feature Request so we can evaluate creating a File Sync Failed Alert.

Kind Regards,
