Opening SOTI Surf through a 3rd party app, Routemax from lockdown kiosk, and the app needs to open a URL link via SOTI Surf, this is working until I enable Kiosk Mode

I am able to open SOTI Surf from the RM app (on the homescreen) and access the okta sso link with no issues prior to enabling kiosk mode.

I have enabled webfiltering ad whitelisted the URL's needed and this works fine also (without kiosk mode enabled at this point).

The disconnect seems to be when the app is trying to launch the surf browser when kiosk mode is enabled. I'm now getting "You are not allowed to access this page"

I have also added the RM and SOTI Surf bundle ID's to App run control.

Any other ideas why this is happening and what else I can try to resolve this?

Hi Katie,

Thanks for posting on SOTI Pulse.

The error “You are not allowed to access this page” usually means the SSO flow attempted to load a URL or resource that got blocked by the kiosk/web‑filter or the flow tried to open an external app/browser that is blocked by the kiosk policy.

Resolution

  1. Check the SOTI Surf profile’s web filtering rules for the Okta URL.

    • If the site is blocked by category or URL, add it to the exception list of an Allowlist web filter .
    • If the site falls under a blocked category, make sure that category is not being enforced by another applied profile, since devices with blocked categories in many profiles receive all blocked categories from each applied profile .
  2. Review all kiosk mode profiles applied to the device.

    • On Android, kiosk mode reduces access to websites and SOTI Surf app settings.
    • If more than one kiosk mode setting is assigned, the most restrictive one applies .
    • Remove any conflicting kiosk mode restriction that could still be blocking the Okta page.
  3. Confirm the SOTI Surf app is installed and the SOTI Surf profile is deployed.

    • SOTI Surf must be installed to configure and use its settings on the device.
    • SOTI Surf setup requires the app to be deployed to devices using an app policy or package, along with the configuration profile.

Kindly let me know if you have performed the above checks.

Thank you for choosing SOTI.

Check if RM or Soti Surf require other (hidden) apps to be added to the kiosk mode in order to run. This is normally the case if apps run fine outside kiosk but doesn't when enabled.
