Issue Description

After upgrading Zebra devices from Android 11 to Android 13, the built-in system application “Bluetooth Pairing Utility” may appear as uninstalled on the device. This behavior has been observed in customer environments following the OS upgrade process.

Applications Tab

When the device is in lockdown mode, the application may display a “package not found” message. However, when accessed in admin mode, the application is confirmed to be installed on the device.

This behavior is due to changes in the application’s bundle ID following OS upgrades. After upgrading Zebra devices to Android 13, the bundle ID associated with the “Bluetooth Pairing Utility” may differ from earlier versions. This change has been validated through Zebra documentation.

  • On Android 11, the application uses the bundle ID: com.symbol.btapp
  • On Android 13, the bundle ID changes to: com.symbol.scanning.scanningframework
  • On Android 14, the application is associated with: com.symbol.datawedge/com.symbol.btapp.BTActivity

As a result, devices that have not been upgraded to Android 13 continue to display and function as expected, while upgraded devices may incorrectly show the application as uninstalled due to the bundle ID mismatch.

Environment

Zebra devices that have been upgraded from Android 11 to Android 13.

Symptoms

After upgrading Zebra devices from Android 11 to Android 13, the “Bluetooth Pairing Utility” application may appear as uninstalled, even though it remains present on the device.

Cause

The issue occurs due to changes in the application’s bundle ID across different Android OS versions on Zebra devices. The “Bluetooth Pairing Utility” uses different bundle identifiers in Android 11, 13, and 14, which can cause it to appear as uninstalled when the system or management tools reference an outdated bundle ID.

Issue Resolution

Update the application’s bundle ID in the lockdown configuration for Android 13 devices, as outlined in the relevant Zebra documentation. After applying the correct bundle ID, the “Bluetooth Pairing Utility” will appear as installed in the applications list and will be accessible in lockdown mode.
