Process Description
Zebra StageNow is a tool that lets you configure and deploy Zebra Android devices with a barcode scan or an NFC tag. You can use StageNow to wipe a device, which erases all the data and settings on the device and restores it to the factory default state. You can choose between two types of wipe operations:
- Enterprise reset: This option deletes device-specific data and returns the device to its persistent default state. All non-persistent data is discarded.
- Factory reset: This option deletes all data and returns the device to its factory defaults. No user content persists.
Prerequisites
- Install the StageNow application on a Windows PC. You can download it for free from Zebra’s website.
- Find the MX version of the device that you want to wipe. On the device, go to Settings > About Phone > SW Components > MX.
Note: The minimum required MX version is 4.2 or later, but SOTI recommends that you use the latest available version. You can upgrade the MX version through an OS upgrade.
Procedure:
1. Open the StageNow workstation tool. If you don’t have it installed, you can download it from Zebra’s website.
2. In the StageNow tool, select Create New Profile. The profile creation wizard opens.
3. Choose an MX firmware version that matches your device, and then select OK.
4. Select Wipe a Device.
5. Enter a name and a description for your wipe profile, and then select Start. Don’t use special characters.
6. Select Factory Reset or Enterprise Reset as required, and then select Continue.
7. Choose to keep the current configuration or modify it to suit your needs, then select Continue.
8. Leave the encryption settings unchanged or switch to Unencrypted if required, then select Complete Profiles.
9. In the Publish section, choose the appropriate scanner type (2D/1D) and select Test to be prompted with the staging barcodes.
Note: Barcodes can be published once the Factory Reset or Enterprise Reset is tested and confirmed.
10. Print the barcodes or display them on another device.
11. On the Zebra device that you want to wipe, open the StageNow Client app.
12. Select Scan Barcode, and then scan the barcode that you generated in step 9.
Note: If the scanner on the device is not working or the StageNow app on the device is hidden, use the following legacy script to enable the scanner on the device that is enrolled in SOTI MobiControl:
