Depends on your rollout.

Should it be a fully managed device (i assume so)?

Is your Mobicontrol server public or only localy reachable?

Your question implies you don't use the Google Zero-Touch-Portal (ZTP), so you can finally enroll your device (depending on my questions from before) via a enrollment QR or DPC identifier.

WF

Yes, the device is fully managed. MobiControl is on the public server/cloud. Regarding ZTP, how do I set it up? The device currently running on Android 23.

To use ZTP, you need to buy your devices from a reseller providing this possibility.
On the first time he will create a portal access for you and upload the devices to it after you added a relevant configuration there.

Using ZTP means then as soon as your devices reach the portal and have a configuration assigned, you tap thru the steps and get the latest mobicontrol agent installed and it also gets automatically the correct enrollment id, so finally it ends up in your Mobicontrol instance.
Example of a configuration:

{
"android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_USE_MOBILE_DATA":true,                  "android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_ADMIN_EXTRAS_BUNDLE":
{"enrollmentId":"YOUR_ENROLLMENT_ID","PROVISIONING_MODE":"FULLY_MANAGED_DEVICE"}
                  }

Also if someone tries to enroll your device offline (somehow) and it comes online again, it will be wiped after 2 hours, so it's useless to them.

If you prefer QR code enrollment, you can use something like this:

1. tap 10 times on the welcome screen until the camera screen appears.
2. Scan the QR code. Example here:

{
"android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_DEVICE_ADMIN_SIGNATURE_CHECKSUM":"hn8mSNJMPcovWbnnWrb-uMpWZjNlNp-jyV_2A-Whumc=",
"android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_DEVICE_ADMIN_COMPONENT_NAME":"net.soti.mobicontrol.androidwork/net.soti.mobicontrol.admin.DeviceAdminAdapter",
"android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_DEVICE_ADMIN_PACKAGE_DOWNLOAD_LOCATION":"http://soti.net/apk/ae2",
"android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_WIFI_SSID":"YOUR_SSID",
"android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_WIFI_SECURITY_TYPE":"WPA",
"android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_WIFI_PASSWORD":"YOUR_PASSWORD",
"android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_USE_MOBILE_DATA":true,
"android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_ADMIN_EXTRAS_BUNDLE":{
 "enrollmentId":"YOUR_ENROLLMENT_ID",
 "PROVISIONING_MODE":"FULLY_MANAGED_DEVICE"}
}

The benefit here is, that you can choose where to grab the agent and so, also which version to use.

Edit:
I forgot to mention the DPC identifier: You can enroll your device just by tapping all steps (you need to setup a internet connection!) when you are asked to enter your google account,you enter afw#mobicontrol instead. This will install the latest soti agent. Now go further to all steps until you end up in the agent requesting your enrollment id.

If my device does not show anything other than welcome screen after tap 10 times, does it mean that the device is not having Android Enterprise ready?

Since it not working, I download Android Enterprise Agent from soti oem as APK where I select Bluebird Enterprise Mobile and version V2024.1.0 and installed it. Is this agent equal to Android Classic? If yes, does it has limited features as Android Classic?

Not sure about that but try the DPC identifier thing instead.

Doanloading and installing the agent manually on the device won't help as you are then in a "BYOD" and not fully managed mode.

WF

Did you mean fully managed device is equal to BYOD? If yes, then my mistake wrongly interpret the meaning. Device is managed by the company. Normally rugged device with multiple hardware(build-in/split) like uhf scanner, barcode reader.

No, it's not the same.

But if you install the apk when already in the homescreen then the device behaves as a BYOD and NOT as a fully managed device.

The apk needs to be provided during the enrollment initiated via DPC identifier, QR-Code or ZTP (or if Zebra: StageNow Barcode).

WF

I see. Let me play around with few more test to the device next week regarding our discussion earlier.

EF500 is Android 6, that means you can only enroll with DPC identifier, afw#mobicontrol, when asked for a Google Account in the initial wizard.

QR code enrollment is available from Android 7 and above

Zero Touch from Android 9 and above

To be honest, i didn't lookup which Android version the device has as i assumed when looking up for help for enrollment first time, i assume it's a actual model with not using an Android version 8 years old. Sorry for that.

But @Edgar, i need to correct you a bit:
- DPC identifier: no minimum version mentioned
- NFC (i forgot to mention above): Android 6
- QR Code: Android 7
- Zero-Touch: Android 8
For more information take a look here: https://developers.google.com/android/management/provision-device#about_qr_codes

Bluebird EF500 unable to enroll in welcome screen. I have viewed the Android Enterprise Solution Directory and EF500 not on list.

Then, I try install Android Enterprise Agent and Plugin in soti.net/oem but failed. What I can do is install Android Classic in Bluebird Enterprise Mobile V2024.1.0 and able to enroll device on the policies.

hi Rafael,

You are right: Zero Touch works with Android 8 but ONLY on selected manufacturers. Android 9+ on any device with Google Services.
