Isuses with managed config in Enterprise App Policy (OEMConfig)

Hi,

Is managed config in enterprise App policy (not Google Play) working fine for you all? I have latest Mobicontrol (2024.0.1.1020) angents, fully managed Zebra TC53 with latest Android 13 and as delivering apps from Google Play is hit an miss and I don't want to wait hours till it get installed in the device I've tried to distribute OEMConfig app as enterprise. It was delivered quite fast but without managed config ?! Is anyone else using it ?

Yes we use it quite a lot and didn't encounter any issues with it yet in regard what you describe.

I recommend that you avoid using the OEMConfig tool at all. Use the legacy mxconfig script command and the XML files generated from StageNow.

We run oem config for several vendors without issue and it's getting more.

Maybe it would be better to look into that with Zebra together so they also notice if something on their side goes wrong (or maybe on Soti side could be as well).

I tend to agree for Zebra devices. MX XML generated from Stagenow and processed using mxconfig is admittedly a steeper learning curve than OEMConfig but I find the application of the settings way more consistent and reliable. OEMConfig is a tool originally built for AMAPI based EMMs without custom DPCs that don't have file distribution capabilities or advanced scripting like SOTI with the custom DPC.Obviously you can still use OEMConfig with SOTI too, but I still prefer and rely on configuration files + scripting because of the consistency and reliability.

I didn't say not to use it :)
Just like "if no one tells them about an issue, they never can fix it".

So, yes Zebra MX is fine (especially of the possibilitys) but if they provide oem config apps (and i have the feeling it's getting more that way also from Soti side in some settings even like "plugin replacements") it would be good to have them running fine if something doesn't work they should be informed and taken a look into it.
