How many geofences/alerts can manage SOTI Mobicontrol?

Hi! i want to know if there is any kind of limitation creating geofences.

Im talking about making 300 geofences and one alert of get in and other one of get out to/from a geofence (around 600 alerts)

I have tried to search for information and I have not seen anything.

The geofences and alerts should be done manually, right?

Thank you!

I am not from Soti and I haven't tried setting so many geofences in one implementation before,  My gut feeling tells me that additions of 600 alert rules with 300 geofences should not be a problem from the software point of view.  The key is to make sure  you have sufficient CPU power and memory in your MobiControl server.   You can always upgrade your server hardware to solve this respect of the problem.

The real issue can be the real-time response performance requirements, especially if each of your 600 rule is applied to large number of devices.   I would not rely on casual answers or paper spec if I were you.  Test the performance out on real hardware in stages, scaling up device count and number of geofences and monitoring server hardware resources utilization to see if there is any need to upgrade.

Thank you Raymond, I will take into account the limitations of the server and I will gradually scale the devices and alerts that I use.

Thank you for your post Jose,

As per SOTI Help System Requirements (I used MC version 15.5):

"Your environment must meet the following requirements to successfully install and deploy SOTI MobiControl. Unless noted, these are the minimum requirements for a deployment of less than 1000 devices. Above 1000 devices, it is highly recommended that you consider upgrading the components for better performance."

We cannot give precise numbers as we have no control over your environment, devices, polices (File Sync rules, check-ins, Alerts, data Collections, etc.), and each customer environment is different.

For instance, if you create a Data Collection rule >> Schedule Entry, you can run this task Once, Weekly or Periodically (See below screenshot).

Running task periodically from every 2 min to 60 min (1 hour), you will be prompted with the following message.

"Please note that a very frequent schedule may generate an excessive workload for the Deployment Server. Reduce the frequency if you experience reduced system performance.

Same thing goes with creating geofence Alerts: Continuous or Periodic

As stated, very frequent schedule may generate an excessive workload for the Deployment Server depending on your settings

It might be wise to understand your environment and assess the feasibility of such task, and check your server performance by increasing the numbers of geofences/alerts/hardware resources gradually.

Thank you.
