Remote Desktop Client - Launching specific machines in kiosk

Solved

Hi,

We have a customer who will be running Remote Desktop in Kiosk mode to a machine and a workspace.

Our intention is to add kiosk menu items that launch said PC and Workspace directly rather than presenting the Remote Desktop app itself.

Normally, without Kiosk, the user would 'pin' the remote desktop widget to the Android home screen and launch from there, but I believe the kiosk screen doesn't support widgets.

how would I go about creating this solution? Has anyone done this before?

I've seen mention of an rdp file type with intent on another discussion but I have no experience in this so cannot look to implement.

Thanks

Hi Chris,

you can create a .rdp file on the PC (with the standard Remote Desktop Application), transfer this to Android and create a link to the file in Soti LockDown. Propably you have to start the RD Client on Android once to get Android to know the .rdp files.

Thanks Martin,

So I need to think of the best way to use file sync to push out individual rdp files to each device (generically named so I'll only need one kiosk?

Also, it seems now any time I launch the RD Client app in kiosk mode, I get the Error message "The .rdp file is not valid."

This message appears when simply launching the RD Client app from kiosk, with or without machines added to the app.

It also appears when attempting to launch the .rdp file from the kiosk.

Hello Chris,

Thank you for posting on SOTI Central!

I would advise to create a case with us to have it investigated further for you.

Hi,

We have a case open and it's being investigated, however I can't have been the only person who has seen this? Does anyone else use RD Client in SOTI Kiosk?

Hi, sorry for late reply but I found Parallels client quite nice for this purpose (it's possible to launch it using URI links that could be even created dynamically with MobiControl custom attributes - it took bit digging to get it work but it's possible )
